Re: I prefer 2pc rods....... Am I a dinosaur?

I have several 2 piece rods that I fish often on local waters. They are convenient as long as I'm driving to the river but I wouldn't want to travel by air with any of them. I even have the reel on...

Re: Pricing of Premium Rods and Equipment - Yikes!!

The only criteria I have when I purchase new equipment is will it increase my enjoyment or fill a void for how I like to fish. Luckily, within reason, price isn't that important. I've reached the...

Re: Hardy - happy warranty experience

The instructions I read for a warranty repair for my Hardy Zenith say to cut the broken section only up into pieces and mail it to Hardy which I thought was kind of strange. Luckily I haven't needed...

Re: 10' 4wt Radian line recommendation according to Scott

I have had no trouble turning over flies and a 9'-10' leader with 10' or so line out the relatively rare times I've tried it. I've only fished dry/dropper, emergers and soft hackles. I haven't...

Re: 10' 4wt Radian line recommendation according to Scott

I have a Radian 10' 4wt and have used both the Rio InTouch Gold and InTouch Trout LT in WF4 with it. I've been satisfied with both on the rod but YMMV.

Re: Bauer, Galvan and Abel SD

I would agree on Winston green models being made. I would also bet Winston allocates significantly more marketing $$ to the Bauer reels. I've owned several and all were high quality and problem...

Re: rod droop

Huntfish, sorry for any confusion in my post. You were right in that I hadn't posted earlier that my rod had two stripping guides. I meant I had posted the serial# of my rod earlier showing it was...

Re: rod droop

As I posted earlier, my 904-2 is an earlier build than his and also has two stripping guides. As with many of the older rods I have either owned or seen, the guides are also smaller than on my...

Re: For Winston Experts

I think its a real testament as to how great a rod designer Tom Morgan is. The rods he designs are not only a pleasure to cast but are also very effective fishing tools. They have stood the test of...

Re: For Winston Experts

While I don't consider myself a Winston expert, I have owned a number of them over the years and still own a couple including a Loomis blank IM6 TMF. I find my TMF a specialty rod suited almost...

Re: rod droop

I think S&S is right about "gravity". I just looked at the unassembled tip section of my rod and the tip still dips slightly groundward with the guides pointed up. Same as with the guides pointed...

Re: rod droop

The original OP made me curious so I also took my G 904/2 out to check it out. Like Huntschool, mine also has only a slight (less than 1/2") droop toward the end of the tip section when the rod is...

Re: What is This Old Winston Worth?

Yep, your rod is a pre IM6 8' 5wt that was built on a Fisher supplied blank. Very nice rod. Here's a pic of my 9' 3wt pre IM6

Re: What is This Old Winston Worth?

If the serial# is 4 digit, it is known as a pre IM6 rod and have a devoted following in weights 3-5. I've never seen a 5wt with a cork reel seat like yours however. The rods were built on Fisher...

Re: Cutting back a fly line.......

I've never tried it myself but have read that many like to cut the tip back on Wulff Triangle Taper floating lines to work better with a specific rod. I think Wulff even suggests the tip can be...

Re: Winston 10' Technical Nymphing Rods

I've never tried tight line technical nymphing and don't often fish nymphs except as an occasional dropper of a larger dry or terrestrial. I do have a 10' 4wt Radian that I find very versatile for...

Re: best reel for a Scott Meridian 7 weight 9' 0"

I have a Hatch Finatic 7+ Mid Arbor I can use on my 8wt Meridian. It is a relatively heavy reel however. If you don't ever plan to use the reel on 8 or 9wt rods I would probably recommend the 5+...

Re: Scott Radian Ferrules

I find the 906 more powerful (as it should be) than the 905 and like it better when fishing larger, air resistant flies like salmon flies, hoppers or other terrestials and attractors that I often...

Re: Scott Radian Ferrules

I agree with Eastfly on this. I have both the 905 and 906 Radian and find very little overlap between the two.

As for the OP's question as to ferrule fit and reel seat, I own the 10' 4wt, 9' 5wt...

Re: Scott G2 vs Burkheimer DAL

I agree with rsagebrush as my take is pretty much spot on with his. I recently bought a 489-4 DAL and find it a very nice, medium fast rod that I like a lot. I've only fished it with dries and...

Re: Which rod to take?

I haven't fish the SoHo this year but I think it might be a little early for Sulphurs as well. My home waters are about 150 miles south in SE Tennessee and our Sulphur hatch doesn't usually really...

Re: Fly line for Scott Meridian 8#

Thanks for the input and I think I'll try both a Rio Permit and an Airflo Tropical Punch on my 8wt Meridian as I find the Rio Bonefish taper a little light for the rod. I do think the Rio Bonefish...

Re: Fly line for Scott Meridian 8#

I've got a Rio Bonefish WF8F for mine and it casts well with it. I think it would also handle a line with a more aggressive taper well. Like the Airflo Tropical Punch but I haven't tried one on the...

Re: Anderson's 2016 5wt reel shootout soon to be released. Predictions??

It was surprising for me to see the Abel sealed disc reels rated so low. I don't own one but I've never owned an Abel reel that wasn't excellent. I wouldn't expect these to be any different.
