Re: Fly Fishing Trout Trip VT/NY

Baxter house, for both lodging and guides. I love the Catskills, cradle of American fly fishing. Pretty neat to go up to the Junction Pool and catch fish where Theo. Gordon used to wet a line.

Re: Smith Lens Question

I fish salt inshore for stripers, flats and shoal water, trout streams, and tropical flats for bones and permit; photochrome coppers are the only glasses I use.

Re: Yellowstone Trip

Bring the four piece, Soda Butte, Lamar, Gibbon, there's so much good water in the park you couldn't fish it all in two lifetimes.

Re: How long should Simms waders last?

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm not a big fan of Simms waders, I like all their other stuff. I had a pair of Cabelas waders that I used for at least 6 years and never had a leak, finally...

Re: Tarpon help needed

You might not be getting the fly in front of them. We always used intermediate lines for dredging tarpon, Sci Anglers tarpon line (slime line) was the line of choice. We cast up current of them...

I too am looking for a lighter weight bootie. I have a pair of Simms OceanTeks that I wear for dedicated bonefish trips where I'm not sure what I'll encounter.
Every year we go south for a couple...

Alaska Pike flies

We're headed to Alaska in August and we're taking a day to target pike. What are the recommended sizes and colors for these guys. Also, what type of line, intermediate or float? Thanks.

Re: Fly tying kit or Buy decent vice?

Absolutely get a decent vice and a few materials to tie simple flies, clousers or buggers, this should get your confidence level up. I bought a kit many years ago from Herter's, it was awful. ...

Re: Do you like to fish alone?

When I first read the question my response was, " I fish alone", but when I thought about it it's really more like 50/50. I have a couple of friends that I'll fish with anytime, anywhere for...

Re: Which reel for bonefish?

As usual, I agree with S&S, I would add Ross Big Game (if you can find one) to his list of favorites. Some of the other Ross reels may be as good but I have no first hand experience with them. ...

If you're looking for nightlife this isn't the island. There's a ton of great beaches, you can go to Harbour Island for a day trip, a short inexpensive ferry ride from North Eleuthera. If you...

Re: Eleuthera

I'll be there early March for a couple of weeks and have been going every year for about 15 years. We usually stay mid-island so I can access both north and south flats. It's not a fishing trip for...

Re: I hear very little on how a rod feels with a fish-on.

I'm not addicted to bamboo but whenever I do fish with one I'm always amazed at how every movement of the fish is transmitted to hand. For me bamboo is the "cats a$$" for fishing small dries on...
