Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

10' 4wt. Or a 7'6" 4 wt. Then think about a 3wt.

Re: Opinions on 3wt rods

Fiberglass- I have a Scott F2 6'6 3 wt. Beautiful rod, fantastic action and a great fish catching machine. Other side of the spectrum is my Allen Icon 10' 3wt. As Andrew Dice Clay used to say,...

Re: Embracing the power of The Dark Side . . . (midges)

If you really want to have a blast, type VII line. Figure out how deep your lake is, either by sonar or clip your hemostats to your bottom fly and drop it straight down until you hit bottom. Pull...

Re: Slip Strike Indicator and use

Joe, all the slip indicators I've ever seen have straight holes, not tapered. Usually after a few times out the holes start to taper by themselves. I'm using the same indicator I've had for 3 years...

Re: Stillwater tactics and which sink line/set up ?

One thing I want to mention. Although the thermocline is where the most oxygen and cooler water temperature will be, you'll still have fish coming towards the surface also. :)

To see the...

Re: Stillwater tactics and which sink line/set up ?

No need to cast a 20'+ leader, especially if you use a slip indicator. Drop your line in the water and kick backwards away from the indicator.

Re: Stillwater tactics and which sink line/set up ?

I looked at the map, and wouldn't go any deeper than 40'. Water temp and ambient temperature will play a big part as will any inlets. On a lake like this, a Type III DC is what I would use if I only...

Re: You have to be 'my age' to understand this age.

Never was much of a S&G fan. I was more the hard rock, Stones, Alice Cooper, Hendrix and LZ in those days. Young wannabe famous rock guitarist. But I do like some of Paul Simon's solo stuff. You Can...

Re: Seeking Grayling, High Uintas, UT - 08/04/2013

Last summer we drove up there past Trial Lake to Washington. Hiked around to the other side of the lake. Joni threw 5 casts and came up with 5 species. Brook, cutt, rainbow, grayling and a tiger. All...

Re: Is it still fly fishing if you do it with a spinning reel

This is brought up a lot on another forum. Some try to justify it as fly fishing. It's legal here in Utah to spin fish with a fly, and that's ok. Just don't call it fly fishing. Most that fish with a...

Re: Safe, affordable overnight on Hwy 20, Northern Idaho?

You could also call Macks Inn and see if they have a room. They have cabins and rooms. You'll be in Island Park not far from gour destination. 90 miles from IF.

Re: What is the best trout fly reel ever made?

I do believe that the Pflueger Medalist could have sold more reels than any other brand ever.
Been selling them since time began, they're cheap, simple, heavy and a stepping stone for most anglers....
