Re: Troy, montana

For starters you'd be situated on one of the best tailwaters in the state.
The Koot is a big water. I'm told most folks float it. A more manageable sized water would be a nifty tributary called the...

Re: Trip Report- Backpacking RMNP

I second comeonavs check list.

And it's time to ditch the "Ball n' Chain" phrase
as one who can catch trout and approve this
sort of trip would be invaluable.

Nice report!

Re: Bighorn river general info

Fished it last week. Water levels now stuck at 2,500cfs.
Never used a toon but I would imagine
shortyb's comments about wind
(tends to blow up stream there)
and water speed should be...

Yellowstone Lake 7-5-14

Tackled Yellowstone Lake on Sunday with all my new lake skills.
Family trip so didn't hit it as early as I should have. Got skunked.

I knew, given the lake trout affect, that nabbing a cuttie...

Also going this weekend and I like to center around the opportunities along my route to where ever I'm staying. Then key on areas around the destination. I'll be looking at the small streams coming...

Re: YNP (And Surrounding Areas) Advice

On a 900 mile trip I'd start with preventive vehicle maintenance today, plan a couple meal breaks along the way and add potty stop or two. I've done trips like that from California but I was twenty...

Re: heading to Montana.

Never fished it but I'd certainly not want to pass up on the Missouri since you're landing in GF. Yellowstone pretty muddy today on the webcam below Gardiner. Not sure when it will clear. I like the...

Re: Bob Marshall-Early July

For what ever it's worth I've fished the Middle Fork of the Flathead below Essex in early July and any dry fly worked. Trying to get the line out of the raft at launch a cuttie took a swipe at my...

Re: Beartooth Highway

You could spend a week in the Beartooths. Most lakes require a day hike in.
We usually just do Rock Creek and hike in a couple miles. Fish sizes small but very fun.

The first lake Shortyb showed...

Re: 2014 Runoff estimates

In Montana, BuRec made routine increases in flows to the Big Horn at Ft. Smith last week. This week, in more of a mild panic they upped it again to 5K. We've got the catch 22 here as they try to save...
