Re: The Fly Fishing Lanyard - Pros/Cons

I agree 100%. I tried a larger lanyard and it just gets in the way. I now have some cord for my nippers and a very small multi-tool. Of course, I tie my own flies, so going "minimal" isn't in the...

Re: Abel Super 8 Reel- Issues?

I just checked a newer Super 8 that I have. I stand by Dave's post and my original statement, there is a spring on the spool with an insert that provides the click. Also, mine must be newer than...

Re: Abel Super 8 Reel- Issues?

I may be mistaken, I am basing my response on the same problem with a super 4 where the spring holding the "clicker" broke. I have a newer super 8 that I can check. In the case of my super 4, the...

Re: Question about maxima leader material

Trout leaders I use Maxima clear or chameleon down to 3x, then use my tippet material from there. I use a 60:20:20 for steelhead. First two sections are clear or chameleon, then the tippet is...

Re: Saracione Monarch M40/D Reel - 4"

I agree, take Joe up on his offer. I have two of his reels and they are built like tanks. I am sure there are some collectors that would drool over that reel.

Re: Scandi line setup

Great advice. I use the airflo polys when I pull out my scandi setup. For advice specific to your rod I suggest contacting Poppy at the Red Shed. He's the best.

Re: Importance of snow out west?

Where I am snowfall is very important. We do not get any summer rain to speak of, so much of our fishing is between spring blowout and then when water gets low and temps too high in the mountain...

Abel bags?

I see that Steve Abel has started offering luggage again. Anyone have any experience? My old duffel bag with the broken zipper and numerous holes may finally be replaced this season.

Re: What do you guys use to transport fly tying materials?

I have a fishpond bag especially for my tying stuff. But I love tying, and the question now is not how I haul my tying gear with me, but how do I haul all of my boxes of flies that I tied at home! ...

Re: Your Fly rod brand of choice

Fred nailed this. All of my two-handers are Meiser and Burkies, and all were purchased after long conversations on the phone or at a clave. As far as single handers, I really do not have any...

Re: 4 Weight Rod Help

There is something to be said with skipping a wt when you are starting out. You have the 3wt so why not skip to the 5? It would open up more water and if you are as enthusiastic as you sound in...

One of my steelhead buddies has a few loops for his two-handed rods and seems to like them, although it is more common to see him use his Saraciones. I bought an opti and used it once and took it...

Re: Even with tying do you still buy?

I can't remember the last time I bought a fly. I bring a travel kit when I travel and it is a lot of fun to try and match something new. That and trying to match some hot pattern.

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

I am thinking along the same lines. I am also an Abel addict as I love quality and use super 4's all the way up to super 10's. I only fish fresh water, but do that year around for trout and...

Re: Rods You Just Can't Part With

My first fly rod is retired and sits next to my fly tying desk. I tend to get rid of rods that I do not use, but I have a 486-2 Winston WT that I bought in 2003 after a big life experience. Never...
