Re: Just Curious: How Many Fly Rods Do you Own

I've got about a hundred rods...all Powell. And I have 4 shotguns. Aside from the single shot Savage I started with as a lad my others are all 1100s - best gun ever made.

Re: SLOOOWWWW action graphite rod?

By far the slowest action graphite I've ever cast are Walton Powell's original standard graphite fly rods. He and his son used to argue about the fact that Walt's rods were sooooo slow...which was...

Re: Lets talk 6 weight trout rods...

Find an 8.5 or 9' Powell Legacy 5-6wt - Chico era not the newer version. It'll slot in action wise between the Z-axis and the G series - closer to the G series and perfect for the uses you describe...

Re: question for the rod tech geeks

I'm sure one can roll cast a Sage Xi. In the hands of a skilled fly fisher I'm sure it's quite possible. However, I doubt it roll casts well. It's probably a damn broom stick. When hearing...

Re: Remember when a Scott was a Scott and a Sage was a Sage?

Keep in mind that if the guys that run these companies were not business and marketing savvy, they might not be in business any more. Look at what happened to the Powell family. They were taken...

Re: No trying to be a wise guy

I'd take that bet. I've been fly fishing since I was 8 yrs old. I've never spent money on a guide or a fancy lodge trip. Growing up I never fished with a set up worth more than maybe $100 tops. I...

Re: Introductory Rod for a beginner..

Do yourself a favor and get a few lessons and/or hire a guide either at home or in the smokies. A guide will cost a bit more than lessons but it will end up being a lesson on the water. Use their...

Re: allen trout reel

Re: Overlining for a beginner?

I second the Rio Grande or Gold recommendation. I really like both these lines and a 5wt Grande would be a great line to start with.

Re: Cabela's CGR Fiberglass rod

I have no idea what a min overlap is. The male ferrule length should be easy for them to standardize-so if you feel your overlap is not enough the gap should be too big as a result. If you are that...

Re: Cabela's CGR Fiberglass rod

As far as a minimum overlap-you can't really define a minimum. On a spigot Ferrule it should be a good snug fit that keeps the rod together but that leaves a gap of half an inch give or take a...

Re: Cabela's CGR Fiberglass rod

I'd be sure to give the inside of the female ferrule a good look and make sure you didn't damage it.

Re: All-Around Rod?

I've got a Chico era Powell 9' 5-6 wt I'll sell you including shipping for $175. It is a lovely (not to mention historic) moderate action rod that would fill the needs you describe admirably.
