Re: The Golden Rule of Choosing the Right Fly

Beginners and those who fish out of habit, rely on presentation to hook up.
I was one of those for many years........
A Royal Humpy, or a Hopper caught fish for me......why would I learn bugs?
But...

Re: Fly fishing without a hook

I too have reached a point where I don't need to land them.
Swinging a streamer without a bend is a great joy.
The battle isn't where it's at for me, just closing the sale....to fool them is...

Re: Casting nymphs vs dries

The overhand cast is for dries......why would it be for nymphing? The romance of the dry cast is silly.......when not fishing dries.
I almost never cast that way when nymphing. We aren't drying...

Re: Mormon Crickets. “Anabrus simplex”

They get so many during their migration, north of Reno, that you can actually hydroplane on the greasy mess on the roadway. The fish do eat a few, but are gorged pretty quickly........
Fished best...

Re: 7WT Switch

If I was to buy from Beulah, it would be the Platinum 6wt.
Just a tad more stiff than the Classic (close to a Z-axis), but slightly softer than the Sage One.
The set stroke is shorter, which can...

Re: Truckee River/Lake Tahoe area fishing reports

No sweat stig, I just couldn't see what was bugging you.

Re: Beulah Switch 6wt for trout?

No, not a regular line. I specified.......Salmo/steelhead. Check their web site. Fresh water lines.
It is a longer belly dry line for single hand spey.

Re: Beulah Switch 6wt for trout?

Everyone has a different approach.....
I use Rio's freshwater Salmo /Steelhead line.
I run a 9wt on my 6wt. You could run an 8wt if you run a slower rod.
As a guide, I use it to industrial nymph,...

Often have to revisit a 9fter.... and wonder how I ever got by.....I fish my switch almost every day. I think I sold 2 this week to clients.....

Re: I am on the verge of quitting

The overhand is mostly for throwing dries up close......I rarely use it anymore...even on a short stick.
I have come to believe, the rollcast is a more accurate cast if you only use one hand. Get...

Re: Switch Rod Fly Line Question.

Myt1, skagit lines are generally for swinging a streamer.
It is an across-and-down kinda thing.
