Re: made in China lines

Another update:
The line is still looking good and working like it should!

I have purchased a few more lines from the same seller, and no problems with any of them. Just put a new 5wt line on my...

Re: He's "hooked"

I'd say you're hooked. :icon_lol:
I've done it, too, and watching the excitement on their faces is more rewarding than spending the time with a pole in your hands.

Re: I didn't catch a big fish today

When they take the line into brush the odds aren't good, but giving them some slack line has worked for me a few times, too.

Re: made in China lines

Reporting back with an update!

Been fishing the line from China for some time now and looked at it today after having a fish in the 5-8# range on for a short time. (big bass took a bluegill I had...

Re: How young is too young?

I started my son at about 4 years old, but at a pond with plenty of bluegill and with one of those short rod/reel (spincast) outfits. He tried a fly rod at about 7-8 years old, but soon lost interest...

Re: I have a new addiction.

Nice fish, and I'm sure it was fun to catch, but I just have to say they are not a fish I would call pretty.

Re: R.I.P Casey Wise

Sad to hear about Casey. A young age to leave this world. :(

Re: adding weight to the reel

Thanks for the ideas & suggestions!

I did weigh both the reels I mentioned. The Drift 5/6 (with line & backing) weighs right at 5 oz - the Medalist (with line & backing) 7 oz.
I don't think it...

adding weight to the reel

Last year I bought a 9' 5wt Redington CT rod and a Redington Drift 5/6 reel.
The reel doesn't balance the rod to suit me (balance point is about 1" in front of the cork on the rod itself) and makes...

Re: Early season sunfish

I fish slow and deep with something "buggy" looking and fairly small (#12 or #14) when the water is still very cold. When it starts to warm in the shallows the fishing can really pick up. Even an...

fishing in the cold

40 degrees with strong north wind blowing, and some fool was out at the local lake with a fly rod!
I was the only person even attempting to fish in those conditions, and I even caught a few stocked...

Re: Any info on Cane and Silk flyrods?

Took it out for another short trip and noticed it doesn't have a hook keeper if that would matter to you. I never use it, so it's not a concern for me.

Re: Any info on Cane and Silk flyrods?

Got the rod today. (6'6" 3pc - "lizzard green" glass)
Looks good for the price! Not a premium quality reel seat, but no complaints about function. If I were giving it a score on a 1-10 scale I'd...

fish ID

Caught this one from a farm pond (in southern Ohio) today. It was 8-9" long, thick body, and put up a good fight (I was using an 8'0" TFO Pro 2wt rod).
I'm guessing possibly a bluegill/green sunfish...

Re: Any info on Cane and Silk flyrods?

No information other than the builder gets excellent feedback on build quality.
I ordered a 6'6" 3pc 3wt today, so I'll have more information when I get it.

Re: warmwater pics

6'0" 2pc/2tip 3wt "no name" rod.
It has a few color imperfections (light spots) on the blank that don't affect performance, but kept it from being marked with a brand name and sold at full price. ...

Re: warmwater pics

Hit a farm pond with the 3wt bamboo rod looking for a big bluegill to qualify me for this year's Fish Ohio certificate & pin. (I submit one fish every year)
A qualifying "sunfish" is 9" and my first...

Re: made in China lines

Sorry for a poor picture, but it's snowing hard here but I rushed out to the truck got the rod/reel and did the test. Had to bend it to form a loop to hold with one hand so I could snap a picture,...

Re: Cabelas American Dream Fly Rods Sale?

Only fly rod I've ever broken (actually my son was using it at the time, but I was with him and he was not abusing it!) was a Cabela's rod. You guessed it - the tip snapped when landing a bluegill. I...
