Re: Identify Orvis rod

Just guessing here in absence of pics....

Uplocking seat w/cork insert should put it mid- to late-80s. I believe Orvis continued to use downlocking through the early 80s and went to wood inserts...

Re: tying questions about weighting flies

A mistake commonly made by new tyers is failing to use sufficient tension on the tying thread; sometimes, this amount approaches the thread's breaking strength. While this may not be the cause of...

Indeed Jack Charlton designs were well thought out in features and aesthetics. I had the chance to speak with Jack at some length at a show in "94 or '95. It was shortly after the reels were on the...

Re: Strung saddle hackles ?

Schlappen feathers are located from the rear edge of the saddle to the top of the tail. For practical purposes, they're large saddle feathers composed of 100% web.

Re: cameras

Bruce,
The specs for the XP80 look more than adequate for great fly photos. It may not pull in as tight on tiny flies as some other cameras, but you have enough resolution to crop and still end up...

Re: cameras

Almost every picture I've posted on various boards over the years has been taken on a 5.0MP Cybershot from 2003/4 or its 7.2MP Cybershot replacement from 2007. The latter, despite being a lower...

You said you're looking to get into fly tying this winter. I take it you've never tied a fly.

Re: Thread Size Question and Hooks

If you look at the egg fly, you'll see the thread, if visible at all, is hardly so.

Re: Abel 4.5 question
