Re: Fly Fishing Trout Trip VT/NY

Stay at the West Branch Angler and use them for a float on the WB or mainstem. Or look up Joe Demalderis and book him for a float.

I would still use Craig as a wade guide as I like and trust him,...

Re: Fly Fishing Trout Trip VT/NY

Do you want to wade or float? If wade, I would use Craig Buckbee who is also a casting instructor and can help your wife out. His email is easterncaster@gmail.com

Re: Hitting the Esopus

The portal dumps muddy water into the Esopus. It's pretty much unfishable for the first mile or so. Or, at least, I've never seen anyone fish it. The farther down you go the cleaner the water...

Re: Hitting the Esopus

Tubers can be easily avoided. I find them worse on the Farmington. Didymo is worse as well. OP do a search on how to clean your gear.

The cemetery sieve was notoriously dangerous. It was finally...

Re: Hitting the Esopus

I stopped by on Tuesday and there was didymo all through the lower river. It made streamer and wet fly fishing pretty frustrating.

Re: Hitting the Esopus

Pretty much all of the Esopus is open and fishable. While it doesn't get the big hatches like the others rivers, it is a good wet fly river so read up on those techniques. A dry dropper (caddis...

Re: Simms Solarflex Gloves Dangerous for Fish?

There are a few things I don't like about that video. The cut midway during the initial hold so you don't know how long the fish was held for, and the slow motion release adding drama and tension...

Re: Appropriate Amount To Tip a Guide?

Plus the cost of my personal gear. The license. The travel expenses, accommodation and food.

The 20% tip is the least of my expenses to make the day happen.

Re: Appropriate Amount To Tip a Guide?

You couldn't pay me enough to be a guide and have to deal with clients.

As a sport I try to be as decent as I can to my guide, but I see a lot of other guys who are utter *******s on the river....

Re: Appropriate Amount To Tip a Guide?

Add in gas, wear and tear on vehicles, food, drinks, flies, leaders, tippet, extra rods, waders, boots and consider that many guides have to pay a share of the fee to the fly shop that books them.

Re: Iceland fly fishing

Fishing for trout or char is reasonably priced. There are very good rivers within an hour of Reykjavik that would maybe cost you $150 for the day.

Any number of guides can set you up with a...

Re: Putah Creek - Northern CA's Premier Trophy Trout Fishery!

The video and your promotion of the guide's business were removed as soon as the owner of the forum saw them.

But damn, son. You're really missing the point.

Re: Putah Creek - Northern CA's Premier Trophy Trout Fishery!

I had a friend who would take out everything, open the empty glove box, roll down the windows and leave $5 on the front seat.

He considered it the valet fee.

Re: Tippet Rings = Ethical ?

That's been discussed to death (or not), but sustainable catch and kill would be the more ethical (the word is being stretched here) approach to fishing.

Re: Putah Creek - Northern CA's Premier Trophy Trout Fishery!

I have a friend with property in Cloverdale alongside the river. He has seen steelhead in good water years, but mostly the river is too dry for them to make it that far.

But as a young professional it is incumbent upon you to understand that you were promoting, marketing and selling a commercial business. Whether you saw any financial gain is...

Re: Putah Creek - Northern CA's Premier Trophy Trout Fishery!

It's a miracle those fish make it. It's a nice creek but it doesn't need more attention and it isn't a trophy trout fishery.

The car theft thing is an issue throughout the central valley. I know...

Re: Putah Creek - Northern CA's Premier Trophy Trout Fishery!

Paid or not, you were selling something as the forum owner pointed out.

It's a nice creek (despite the continual car break-ins), but trust me, people who fly to NorCal to fish don't have Putah at...

Re: Tippet Rings = Ethical ?

And I'll just leave this here...

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Nice creek, but hardly a "trophy trout fishery". Oh wait ... you're selling something.
