Re: Muskie Rod

All of those brands have models that work well for musky fishing. If Sage is out of your price range, likely Orvis will be too.

TFO Esox 400-500gr rod is a good rod. One that I use every time I'm...

Re: Cabelas

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any Cabelas coupons laying around that they're not planning on using? I've got a monster shopping cart right now, and I'd love to find a way to save a few...

Re: big eyes for big flies

Oh I feel your pain, Ard. Some of my musky flies have $2-3 invested just in hooks alone. Figure another $2 or $3 in materials (at least) and losing a fly really starts to hurt. I scored a large...

Re: Sunfish Capital of the World - Onalaska, WI

I think I might know where those are. In fact I think they're just a few blocks away. Birchwood is also right down the road too.

Re: Worth bringing a fly rod to Boston?

Being that I fish for musky all the time, I'm quite familiar with the feast or famine philosophy. I've definitely got the famine part of the it pretty well understood anyways. But I am still willing...

Worth bringing a fly rod to Boston?

I've got to be in Boston next week for a conference and was curious if there is much for fishing opportunities to be had right now. I'm planning on spending some time checking out some of the...

Re: Sage price increase

I see my point went right over your head. I was really hoping to have a fun debate. Instead, I think I'd have more fun going back to my work.

Re: Sage price increase

Care to tell us how you really feel?

Wow. One of my favorite rods that I've ever had the pleasure to cast was a 9' 6wt 1 piece Zenith. It was outstanding in my opinion. To flat out disregard an...

Re: Looking for a Redington CPS

Hope that you find what you're looking for. The CPS is secretly one of my favorite rods of all time. I liked it even more than my $800 Helios 2. As far as budget rods go, this one was a winner.

Re: Want to fly fish Pike Canada Suggestions?

One trip that stands out in my mind is a trip to Nipigon for pike, lakers, and brook trout. Otherwise just throw a dart at a map of Ontario and you're likely to find excellent pike fishing wherever...

Re: Angler Category

Part time, type 2 for me. More than anything, the reason for this is my geographical location making it nearly impossible to fly fish year round. I enjoy ice fishing during the winter months, and...

Re: A Quick Wader Queston

Socks inside my waders, yes, but not outside. I wear out other portions of the waders long before the neoprene boots to worry about wearing socks outside of them.

Very nicely done! I chuckled when I saw that picture of you fishing that hole on Pebble. A few weeks ago, I caught more fish out of that pool and the next one up than I did in my 3 other days on...

Re: $2485 will almost get you the "essentials" to fly fish

I'm not sure. He mentioned that for beginners he would recommend the $150 outft. The other gear was for committed freshwater anglers. Big difference, IMO.

Re: Nail polish poppers?

As others have said, it's not ideal for locking a popper head onto a hook. Though you can use it as a clear coat if you want to. Go grab yourself a cheap bottle of super glue gel or epoxy to look...

Re: Coming Up From Georgia

Len making a comeback with an anti-TU/anti-WIDNR rant thread. I don't feel like arguing the merits of habitat improvement projects with you, as we've been down that road before. But I will say that...

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

If my math is correct, this puts the 2015 season count at Bison - 5 Bears - 0.

One of my favorite things about being at the park is getting to watch the sheer stupidity on display.

A...

Re: Racine WI/ Root River tackle advice.

Home water is home water. It's nice to be able to go drive 5 minutes and be on it, even if it is going to sometimes be busy. But if you don't dig the combat fishing, then don't bother with the Root....

I should specify that when I say photo dump, I also reformat the card. It's just habit.

Re: My 2015 Season Thread;

I believe he's going to tell you that it's a "Swingin D" tied by Mike Schultz. It's a great fly. I'm not sure on availability now, but those Rainy foam diver heads that he uses were hard to get your...

Re: Yellowstone fishing partner?

It's that .1% of the time that worries me. But it won't make much of a difference to me in the end. But it's a good opportunity for someone to get a bit of an ego-boost after watching me cast a...
