Let's see:

Smallies/Musky/Largemouth public river - 20 min
Trophy Trout private spring creek (mostly rainbows, some browns) - 10 min

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

I'm still waiting for my limited edition steal your face grateful dead reel from Abel. It's been nearly oh 9-10 months. So I can't speak for the quality of the reel or performance yet.

I will say...

Re: Say wot??? $89.95?

It's called "planned or designed obsolescence". I ran into it a lot in marketing and advertising discussions when I was working in my old job.

Sad—sometimes I loath the way America gets built.

Coolers

Kinda random but I think pertinent to those who like to have a cold drink in the outdoors.

So besides YETI, what are some other brands of coolers one might consider?

I know of a few and...

Need a quality UV lite

Been thinking of getting some UV clear head cement products, I know there's loon and clear cure goo. What I've been told is that you can get a decent/better UV lite on ebay.

Anyone got any good...

Re: How to evaluate the risk of Smaller-sized Companies?

I have a CF Burkheimer rod. That's made in the USA (Washington). I'd never heard of them until I saw them on the Filson.com site. That was proof enough for me to buy from them. Small company (what...

Re: warmwater pics

Mostly a cold water guy but getting into warm water more. Here's a recent doah large mouth that hit a pink and chart clouser. Hopefully will be adding some smallies soon…maybe a musky too. A guy can...

Re: Newbie outfit question

If you can only get one rod go with a 9' 5 or 9' 4 wt. With the former you'd be "ok" with smallies, although it a 6-8wt is recommended around here to throw bigger flies. The former will at least make...

Re: Walkie Talkies

If you got the cash, I have a pair of Garmin Rino 530HX in 2008 for a trip to Kauai with my wife when we planned on hiking. They're water proof and have GPS and as long as you can get them on the...

Re: Looking for some opinions.

Well, what did YOU eat for breakfast?

Just kidding. I find time and time again when fishing with someone who is hitting the same holes, with the same flies (even sometimes right before me) and not...

Re: Anyone use different size rods for stream conditions?

Multiple rods? Absolutely.
I take it you've never heard the analogy made between GOLF and FLY RODS?

It's true. You can tee off with a #5 fairway but you'd be better off with a #1 driver. And you...

This brown was a long time coming. Three years of hoping and about 30 attempts later I finally landed a good size brown on this famed technical spring creek.

I did my homework, taking note of...

Re: Weight of a fly rod

I have a ZG HELIOS 7wt w/big game fighting butt. I used to think that was a beast. It's a tip flex, stiff and when I got it, one of if not THE lightest 7wt around.

I also have a buelah 8/9wt...

Thanks everyone. Should be geared up by the end of this week and hitting the river next week. We're getting 2-3 inches of rain this week and hopefully things will clear up soon.

Best,

Re: Starting Out/Beginning Musky

Thanks. Also talking to a bud that says a 10/11 wt might be a better rod to have the power to throw bigger flies, since sometimes they key in on big flies and will ignore smaller stuff (9wt). I get...

Re: Will using a cone too large for the hook rotate the fly?

Hmm. How well balanced is the material at the head of the fly (just behind the cone)? Is there too much material on one side that might be turning it?

I suspected that was happening on flies that...

Re: Fish Mortality Rate with 1 & 2 Wt Rods

So you do practice C&R, why? Seems to me that'd be more like being 20min out of a cave, not 10 min out of the cave.

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

I have several flip focals in 2.5x and 3.5x power. I leave 1 in the glove box, 2 at the tying bench, one on my hat and keep another in my fly sling bag (along with spare nippers and hemostats).

I...
