Re: Does the 20-20 club have to be trout?

i hear you.

I think buffalo or asian carp would be the best bets though. They eat plankton readily.

Re: Does the 20-20 club have to be trout?

True.

I'm just curious if other fly fisherman would say that something like a 20 inch carp or whatever on a #20 fly puts you in the club.

Does the 20-20 club have to be trout?

I was looking at the thread in the cold water section. Would a warm water catch qualify?

I've been long thinking that a chironomid might be the right fly for an asian carp or a buffalo, maybe even...

Re: SE Kansas--Big Hill resvr. and Mined Land WLA?

Thanks, DLF58.

Is that water accessible to someone who isn't renting a cabin? e.g.a spout pr public pump?

Re: How long does it take a trout to start feeding again after feeling the hook?

Pike and muskie will do this. Many a story about a big pike or musky breaking off and then sitting there with a spoon hanging out of its jaw, as if to say "is that all you got?" They'll sometimes...

Re: A Golf Course Runs Through It

I stay periodically with my utterly spry and ornery 83 year old father. He fishes his local country club pond all of the time, when he isn't playing golf. Very good bluegills and bass.

I agree....

Re: How long does it take a trout to start feeding again after feeling the hook?

Not long at all, if not immediately. Do;t

Not long ago, I read about some recent biology research that concluded fish lack the brain receptors needed to feel pain.

They obviously detect...

Re: Fishing Moms....

Mom wasn't much of a fisherman, but was always supportive. She liked to read and always liked going out with Dad and us little ones. She'd read and enjoy the day while we fished.

One added plus:...

Talking Re: Best Insect Repellent?

I use Off, but then I don't typically fly fish in heavy mosquito areas-hunting and hiking take me into mosquito areas. As was said, a fly line might not like it.

A cigar ain't a bad thing to have...

Re: If you had all the time and some of the money in the world...

I know some fellow monks who are Brazilian (south central plains FWIW) and they talk about fishing for Dorados. I think they'd be worth a crack on the long rod.

For that matter, what about the...

Re: Still goin' strong at 83!

At the rate he's going, he'll make it.

He's giving up golf after this year (plays every weekday if it's over 45 degrees) only because he's running out of partners....and because he bought a boat...

Re: Still goin' strong at 83!

My father is the type who's absolutely gung-ho about fishing trips. We're looking at a few lakes in SE Kansas, maybe Table Rock in Missouri. He likes the Kansas idea because he doesn't need to buy a...

SE Kansas--Big Hill resvr. and Mined Land WLA?

A trip to this area next June is likely. Can anyone say anything about it? We'd probably camp at Big Hill and make a a jaunt of two over to the Mined Land/Strip Pits.

What I'm picking up on Big...

Still goin' strong at 83!

On our recent family vacation trip (typical family reunion camping trip), my 83 year old Dad makes an offhand comment that he wasn't sure he was going to make the one for next year.

It seems he's...

Re: Tippet rings or perfection loop?

These sorts of threads just prove how non-technical I am as a fisherman.

I've used loop to loops and they work fine. A small barrel swivel works good for nymphing and stripping streamers. It adds...

It's definitely warm water. Pitch bass and bluegill flies.

I responded to a similar thread earlier, but I don't know which web forum.

Not sure about Colby itself, but try Sheridan Lake and...

I'm jealous! Looks like a great trip in paradise.

I thought I might get to the Ozarks this summer but it didn't happen.

Re: Starting Setup for Spot Tails and others

Thus is good advice. The starter combos at places like Cabelas and Basspro are both well-regarded. That's another possibility for you.
