Re: How do you find the time?

There's a lot to be said about balance.

My number one problem is having too many interests and hobbies, and I get spread too thinly amongst them. I love hunting and fishing, but I also love tying...

Re: Biting Flies and Harm Reduction

We fish in a lot of remote Northeastern areas where we routinely get inundated with swarms of blackflies, skeeters, deerflies, with the occasional horsefly as big as a B52 thrown in for good measure....

Re: Ordered a 2wt today

I've been thinking of getting a 2wt and targeting pumpkinseeds and other sunfish , and the like. They are considered trash by many folks, but they are omnipresent in so many ponds, and so many people...

Re: Winter Project: Driftboat

Well I just unpacked the plans and DVD. Looks like I got my money's-worth so far. I watched a little of the DVD, and its obvious it was originally shot with a magnetic tape camcorder, so a little...

Re: Buying on the Internet

In the past, non-flyfishing companies have given me bad service when buying products through the 'net. Having learned from my past mistakes, now I only buy from reputable places like Leland,...

Re: Winter Project: Driftboat

Well after much consideration, I ordered the Don Hill plans to build the 16' standard. I'll post a build thread in here to track the progress if there's any interest.

Winter Project: Driftboat

I'm thinking of making a driftboat of my own. I've been exploring a few different options, and I was wondering if anyone here has built their own, and what they could offer for advice. I have the...

Amen brother. :icon_wink

I have the Riversheds with the carbide grip studs and I love 'em. Very nice. My next endeavor will some waders with a more-comfortable foot section. My LL Beans are not...

Help Me Catch a Giant Smallie

I have a pond in mind. Its flyfishing only. The state stocks it with trout, but it also has some smallmouth in it, and I'll bet there are ones that we dont see in there that have been feeding on...

Re: Never argue with an idiot...

This sickens me. :( People are so stupid sometimes, and they get worse as I grow older.

Re: Bronze

Some sort of fallfish, or creek chub I reckon, Ard. Lots of 'em up this way. They will eat the heck out of gamefish spawn and the eggs, and its common practice (up here) to toss them up on the bank...

Re: Finally Satisfaction in 2012

Glad to hear of your success, Boz. I have yet to take a fish so far this year. Been lazy, working a lot of OT, and preoccupied with the guns on my bench to get out much. I'd LOVE to find a spot where...

Re: Simms customer service

I'll chime in.

A few years ago, I was between machinist jobs, and I took a job as an assistant manager of an outdoor sporting goods/rockclimbing company. I won't mention the name, but if anyone...

Re: Time for new reel and.....

My son bought an Okuma SLV, and despite my initial ribbing, he really likes it. He's a pretty solid kid - saving his cash for his wedding this June - he said, "Hey Dad, Not everyone can afford an...

Re: In need of a DT5...whats the best?

Just got the SA Mastery for my wife's rod, and I got to admit its pretty nice. I'll probably go with that for my new 5wt, or maybe even the Wulff Ambush.

Beautiful, poignant stuff right there. I love the old ways. Must be a sign that I am getting old. :o

As a machinist myself, I grew up seeing how things were done in a shop, and the skills needed...

Re: anyone using those new sun protection shirts

I gave up on sunblock years ago. I never could keep the darn stuff out of my eyes! Probably trying to be too thorough when applying it or something.

Nowadays I use simple guide shirts from...

Re: FROGS on a fly?

We aren't much into eating frogs up here in New Hampshire, but keep this in mind because I have a funny story to share.

Years ago, my (then 10 years old) son, Patrick, and I were fishing on a...
