Re: Rod for Colorado
I vote for 7'7" 4 wt by a Colorado builder. It is a great rod for the streams in your state I've been fortunate enough to fish. The 6 wt should be kept for the bigger water you also have available.

Re: Questions about a Bamboo Rod
Take a look at Len Codella's site. He'll likely have a Heddon or two for sale and you can get an idea on prices. A few years ago, I possessed an 8 1/2 Heddon that had been refurbished and I sold it...

Re: Need suggestions for streamer line
Don't overlook the Wulff Ambush series of lines. While they are more like a Skagit head than anything else, they will move the kind of sinking leaders Ard and other are talking about. The only down...

Re: 2013 5-Weight Shootout
I can't understand how a rod can win a "...shootout" when only a few rods are tested. If I were going to make a purchase decision, I wouldn't make it based on the limited results of this test.

Trout Switch/Spey Results
This past weekend was the traditional opening weekend for the Michigan trout season. I made the trip, because it is something that, if missed, seems to taint the whole season. The outlook was not...

Re: acceptable distance for 9' 5 wt.
The biggest killer of distance with a SH rod is the failure to come to a hard stop at the 10 o'clock position on the forward cast. 40 foot cast will put you over a lot of fish, but to hit 60, you've...

Thanks for the comments. I did send the reel back as after 40+ years of reeling left-handed, I too old to change my ways. When I looked very closely at the photos of the reel that accompanied it on...

Re: New rod..Check. New reel....
You've probably long since gotten a reel, but in case you haven't, don't overlook the Hardys. You can find either disk or C/P reels in the classifieds or the auction sites. They are well built,...

Re: 4 wt reel
I'm impressed by the Wulff Ambush lines. Should turn over about anything you tie on the end. The only down side to them is they are really a shooting head with an integrated running line, thus you...

Re: help a newb pick a couple of outfits
The only thing I'd add is to consider the action of the rod. I have always found faster action rods to be less forgiving of bad timing. I'd suggest that you go with a medium action rod to start...

Re: What is the best trout fly reel ever made?
The best depends on where you are fishing and what the quarry is. For trout in the Yellowstone or Madison, fishing big indicator rigs, there is a reel that is better than what I use when I'm up on...

I own reels in the TR and Creek series. I have a TR1 that I use for 3 and 4 weight rods. Both are great reels. Personally speaking, I'd have no problem putting a TR2 on any light rod. The smaller...
