Re: Public vs. Private land.

Laws vary state to state so you'll have to check into that first. In CO, people can own the river bottom but not the water so you can drift through anyones "property". Other states allow you to...

Re: largemouths Any advice

Sure you'll catch bass on a variety of streamers but for real fun throw poppers. All colors will work. I let mine sit until the rings around the fly get to about 4 ft then strip in short lengths to...

Re: OK Guys... What's your favorite target species?

Rip Tide,

I love holding them by the gill plate and feeling their mouth close down on your hand. The jaw pressure is truely amazing. I love schools mixed with stripers and blues. Keeps you on...

Re: Landing the Beast

The best advice I got was to keep the fish out in front of you. If he runs up stream turn the rod to put pressure to bring him back. If he goes below you, turn the rod to force him back to you. ...

Re: OK Guys... What's your favorite target species?

mahi mahi (dolphin)
stripers/blues
trout (any species)
bass
pike
carp

-if it swims I enjoy catching it. Whether its big fish pulling into my backing at an alarming rate or small picky trout...

Re: Colorado in the winter

Can't tell you exactly how it will be but you can def. catch fish throughout the year in CO. I didn't fish this past winter b/c I was skiing too often but the year before I fished quite a bit...

Re: Best Tying Kit (all around)

I wouldn't recommend ANY kit. Buy the essential tools you'll need and a few basic materials that can be used for a variety of patterns and then buy as you go. See a pattern in a shop or book -buy...

Re: South Platte River this past weekend...

CoMtFishing, just heard there will be no nets put up by the DOW this year for the salmon. Apparently the run was poor because of a gill lice issue so they decided not to use the nets this year.

Re: South Platte River this past weekend...

Anyone fish the Dream Stream or the Blue recently. I've heard the big browns from the res. have moved up into the platte but wasn't sure what exactly they take. My guess would be streamer fishing...

Re: Safe for a Trout?

Yea, the soft tip of a 4wt will allow you to put a lot of pressure on a fish with 6x nevermind 5x. 30 minutes is crazy long (if it was actually 30 minutes and didn't just feel like it). Personally,...

Re: Pike and Muskie Rods/flies

I have fished for Pike here in CO for the last 2 years, largest I've landed was 36" on a 7wt. I really think a 9wt is overkill but I prefer to fish a lighter rod if possible. I don't know enough...

Re: South Platte River this past weekend...

The Ark. should fish well but never really prodcues any fish of size. A lot between 10-15". As far as the Dream Stream section of the S. Platte, looking for an area that doesn't get much pressure...

Returning a Winston

Has anyone had any experience in returning a Winston rod. I have a Vapor 4wt that snapped at the top section and unfortunately I never filled out the warranty card to send it in. Apparently they...

Re: South Platte River this past weekend...

Yea, I fished the dream stream run once but went a little too early in the season and ended up trying to sight fish to some of the larger trout instead. Nice pics, looks like you had a good weekend....

Re: South Platte River this past weekend...

Hello COmt fishing, glad to see a new member from CO. Where abouts in the state are you? I'm always up for fishing and only work 3 nights a week so have plenty of time to fish. If you're looking...

Re: Colorado fishing

I actually fished the lakes for the first time this past Spring. Just a day trip but it was pretty enjoyable. I think it would've been great if we had gone at dusk/night. My friend did land a huge...

Re: White Fish?!

We have them here in CO too, most people don't taget them b/c they are snobs (including me) but hooking up with one once in a while is a lot of fun other than the disapointment its not a huge trout. ...

Maui Fly Fishing

Looking to do some fly fishing while in Maui over Christmas. It sounds like the summer is a better time to go but I don't have a say in the matter. Would love to get some big game fish on a fly. ...

Re: Weedguards

Yes, I use 20lb. mono for a weed gaurd. WAYYY cheaper than flouro, just buy a spool at a sporting goods store and it'll last you a long long time. For pike i tie it from behind the eye to the bend...
