Re: Guide Recommendation in Bend, OR?

All right, trip report time.

On Fred's recommendation, I booked with Mark's shop. His son (I assume, since he said he parents owned the shop) Troy guided me for the trip. A couple hours before...

Re: Wisconsin Interactive Trout Stream Map

How to find trout in the driftless area of Wisconsin: Go downhill until your feet are wet. Start casting. :)

Thanks for sharing that, Silver.

Re: Rods you regret buying...

Cabela's CGT 4-weight. Don't get me wrong, it's a great rod. But I was coming from an old Phillipson glass rod and wanted the same feel. The CGT feels more like graphite than glass. I read the...

Re: Guide Recommendation in Bend, OR?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm booked for an evening of wade fishing with a guy named Tony from Mark's shop. I'm really looking forward to this trip and will have a trip report when I get...

Guide Recommendation in Bend, OR?

Anyone got a guide they'd recommend out of Bend, OR for the Deschutes? I'm going on a trip with the in-laws and will have a free half day either the end of Sunday the 17th, or beginning of Monday,...

Re: Dirty water tactics?

I use sparkle leech patterns, but that's really just a flashy black wooly bugger. That's really the only thing in the driftless for muddy water. You could try mousing. That might be effective.

Re: Trip Ideas In NC or Northern GA

Any of the delayed harvest streams would suit you well, then. They stock some easy-to-access streams chock full of trout. Way more than the stream can support, so they're always hungry. Access is...

Re: Trip Ideas In NC or Northern GA

Are you looking for blue lines and hiking or bigger water? What are your thoughts on wild trout vs stockers?

Re: Life is pretty good TR

If you park on Skyline, the hike back out sucks. I've found all sorts of places to park below the stream :). Your Shenandoah fly box looks very similar to mine. Great report, thanks for sharing!

Re: Possible relief for back pain

I've had my share of back pain, and I'm still in my 30s. The only thing that's ever helped was a splitting maul. Splitting wood builds the right muscles.

Re: What to expect from a guide?

I recently hired two different guides for two very different trips. They were both excellent and delivered exactly what I wanted. But I was clear up-front with what I wanted.

Fishing in Key West...

Re: Ashe County Fishing

I've fished that part. It's typical for the area, but it runs through neighborhoods and has a road paralleling it so it gets a ton of pressure. It's not a tailwater. If you're looking for wild...

Re: Cold Nose- Warm Heart- Home river January 24

Love it. The only thing better than getting someone their first trout on a fly is getting them their first trout on a dry. :)

Re: Davidson River

Yeah, with the weather down here lately, I'd suggest smallmouth until the streams fill up and cool off.

Re: Ashe County Fishing

The Wautauga tailwater is downstream from Boone on the TN side. I hear the Holston tailwater is awesome, but I haven't fished it yet because it's too far to day trip for me. Plus the Holston River...

Re: Work can wait, I'm going fishing...

If you're running into through-hikers, you must have had a helluva hike back to your car from the fishing. :)

Great trip report, thanks for sharing!

Re: Tiger Trout ?

Congrats! Anywhere you have brookies and browns both reproducing in the wild you have a slim shot at a tiger. That's the first wild NC tiger I've heard of or seen.

Re: Cabelas CGR Fiberglass Rods

Slow down!!!!! If you can't feel the rod load and unload on the back cast, you're moving it too fast. It should feel like rolling out a heavy rug, not like an extended tape measure flopping around.

Re: Striper Flies?

Thanks for the tips guys. I wound up getting clousers in a couple colors because that's all the local outdoor store had. I'll report back how I did.

Thanks!

Re: I'm not a mean person. But I love it when this happens.

There's nothing wrong with sitting by a pond in a lawn chair for a couple hours. Especially if there's a free show. :)
