Re: Single hand rod skagit grain weights

As previously mentioned the OPST heads are a great place to start as they were primarily designed for the just the application you describe. With the head you will also need some type of sink tip...

Re: Reel Recommendation MacFarland 7ft 3wt 3pc

Ross Gunnison Heritage #1. At 4.5oz it would be balance a glass 3wt quite nicely. I fish a Chris Barclay 7'2" 3 wt and I am temporarily using a Ross Evolution LT 1.5 that, at 4oz, is just a hair too...

Re: Allen Atlas

Looks like they are coming in at $329 and will be available in #2 (5-6wt), #3 (7-9wt), and #4 (9-11wt). Not sure what niche they fill but looks like it will land somewhere between the Kraken and...

Re: Losing sleep on which "salty" 6 weight to buy. Meridian, Tidal, Recon, H2

Nice! Did you happen by chance to cast the Tidal as well? As for reels the Allen Kraken #3 is worth a look. I've been very impressed with the drag, machining and tolerances of me #2 and #3.

Re: Losing sleep on which "salty" 6 weight to buy. Meridian, Tidal, Recon, H2

Can't speak for either the Tidal or the Meridian, but have compared the 6wt Recons and H2's. I would definitely call the rods siblings. As you know the H2 is the lightweight, finesse rod that's...

Re: Streamer rod reviews

For the price the Orvis Recon 906 is a sweet stick with more backbone then it's H2 brethren. I wanted a little more length for stillwater and went with the 966 Recon and I'm mighty impressed.

Have...

Re: Superfine Decision

Split the difference and go with the 7ft 3wt superfine glass. Seriously, glass really shines over graphite at the short lengths. I have not cast the 3wt superfine glass but the 5wt was very nice and...

Re: Rod suggestions, strictly for roll casting

I think good roll casting is just as much about your technique and the line you are using as the rod. Yes longer rods roll cast a little easier, as do rods that are slower compared to faster...

Re: Recommended line for Helios2 6wt

For what you are describing my first choice would be the new Airflo Bandit. I recently got the line as a replacement for a Super Dri Elite (that would not float) in a 5wt. It's basically the old...

Re: how early to start kids with fly rod?

Nevadastig beat me too it! I would have never believed this video but little Hank's (he's now 3) dad and I are fishing buddies. His Dad took him out in the backpack from day one and he observed until...

Winston B3X 590 JWF w/warranty card

For your consideration is a gently/barely used Winston BiiiX 9ft 5wt Joan Wulff Favorite with warranty card. The JWF is NOT a woman's rod, it is the standard blank with a full well grip with thumb...

Hi John - Sorry, but at the moment I'm not able to ship overseas. If that changes I'll let you know.

Cheers - Brian

Re: Lines for Trout

For everything but dry flies the airflo Switch Streamer is an excellent integrated line.

https://vimeo.com/127491332

Based on my experience with the line I would go with the 4.5 on your rod.

Re: Real weight of fly lines

Here's what know of Airflo lines and have confirmed with Rajeff Sports (for a 5wt line):

Super-Dri Elite: 5.0
SD Distance Pro: 5.0
SD Bandit: 5.25
SD Xceed: 5.5
SD Nymph/Indicator and Mend:...

Re: Stupid streamer fly line question

That's always a possibility, but you can limit it by varying the amount of line out and speed of retrieve or swing. In some cases if you aren't snagging bottom once in awhile you probably aren't...

Re: Sage SP ??

My condolences :(. I've never wiggled the 586 but understand it was something special, even compared to the 590. I watched the big auction site for a long time to find my 696 and the 586's never come...

Re: Sage SP ??

I have cast the Mod and would consider it an improved version of the Circa and along the evolutionary line of the LL. No where near as versatile as the SP but an excellent dry fly rod in a modern med...

Re: Switch rod for steelhead nymphing/streamers for big trout

For reference the Little Salmon is 20 minutes from my house. If I was only going to be nymphing it for steelhead a 10ft (true)7 wt is the ideal rod. You can even get away with a stout 10ft 6wt. I...

Re: Sage SP ??

The SP series is ranked up there with the LL and XP as one of the most beloved series of Sage rods. Medium to medium-fast action with lots of backbone. The 690 is probably the most sought after of...

Re: Stupid streamer fly line question

Many folks fish both weighted and non-weighted streamers with floating lines and do "alright". Floating lines have there place depending on how the fly was designed to be fished (technique), the line...
