Re: Traverse City area in June

Most fishermen at that time of the year wait until the latter part of the day to catch the spinner falls and other emergences. Probably why you didn't see anyone. I'll be willing to bet had you gone...

Re: Bauer, Galvan and Abel SD

For casting competition I could see that the lighter the better because of the extreme speed they are trying to develop for just a few casts each day. I still believe balancing a fishing outfit makes...

Re: mini chubby chernobyl Issues

Most of the time when they land on their side you can just give them a quick pop of the rod tip to get them to flip right side up. You're more than likely not doing anything wrong with your tie if...

Re: Traditional Archery

I like the self bow too. I am in the process of building my fourth attempt at a shootable bow. Instinctive shooting is a real talent. Olympic team hopeful is pretty cool. I am looking forward to the...

Re: Anyone know the history of Winston WT fly rods?

S&S nice history of the WT. I am surprised to hear Mr. Brackett was fired from Winston, because I thought he had quit over a difference in opinion over who was picked to succeed him as the head of...

Re: Michigan, Memorial Day Weekend, talking 90F...

Hey great lakes, two weeks ago they were predicting 60 degrees for today. I just got snowed on while fishing the NB AuSable today. The dry fly fishing was good despite the freezing temps, and steady...

Re: Smallmouths & fly selection -- describe your approach

Depending on water clarity, I have brought them up through 10 to 15 ft of water just with poppers. It is crazy to see them jet up from the bottom to slam a popper. I also have used a thirty foot...

Re: Fishing with older rods

I regularly fish Fenwicks from the 60's and 70's for trout and steelhead. I use Pflueger Medalists from the 50's and 60's on them. I like medium full flexing action rods of all types but when I was a...

Re: Ghost bag

I like those soft plastic/silicone nets, they do seem easier on the fish and tangle less. I notice that they hardly ever knock off scales on released fish, like knotted net bags or even the fine mesh...

Re: Winston Buys Bauer Reels.

I have an old M4 that is still one of my favorite reels. And not a scratch on it after many years, I think the anodizing was as good as the abels I have. I only wish I would have bought more of them...

Re: Failure of Modern Fly Design

With all the different designs and patterns that take fish probably just proves that we really don't know that much about why a fish hits.

Re: My first bamboo

Not only will you feel it load, but you will feel it unload. Once you start to feel that you will find casting requires a lot less effort if you just let the rod do the work.
