Remeber that once the fly line is through the rods guides, the balance point will be further shifted foreward.

I all things being equal, for a given strength, a reel holds can hold more white backing than colored. The pigment used adds a tiny amoint to the diameter.

would you still perscribe a 7 weight? Or a 5 or 6 weight switch. Asking as I have heard that switch and spey rods are heavier rods for a given weight than their one handed counterparts.

How important a factor is lenght? I am probably leaning more tword a 5 weight but don't know rather to get an 11' switch or a 12' or larger spey rod.

Way over budget, but maybe a sage accel? Not sure of much else. Heavy rods tend to be faster action. Fiberglass maybe?

Looking at getting a spey rod-living in georgia, I will not be tangling with any steelhead of salmon. I want one partially due to the novelty and fun, but also for specifically fishing at night....

Thats how I would use mine for the most part. Pike, Muskie, barracuda, mackerel, bluefish, small sharks. I do like how that tool locks on as opposed to the lippa.
