Haven't been here in a loooong time. My hard drive crashed and broke, and when my dropdown bar was erased I forgot about this and a few other sites.
Lately since I graduated from high school, I had...

Re: How many flies do you tie?
I tie whenever I have what I need:Materials and free time
But I buy all my trout dries and nymphs, my panfish flies I can tie myself.
If anything at the moment, I'm overstocked with foam flies.

Re: 1st dry fly!
As good as the kind you can buy! I can't do hackle if my life depended on it.
Only thing I see is the body doesn't taper alot from fat to thick as it heads from hackle to tail.

Re: When you buy tying materials ?
I only buy materials when I have the money and the opportunity to head to BPS. Even when I find what I want online first, its different at the store cause I can't tell size that good.

Re: Any one else a Midgeaholic
Only time I use midges is to teach little sunnies that peck at my terrestrials a lesson. That or when I'm chasing creek chubs.

Re: Is this a good beginner outfit?
I own a redington crosswater 8'6 5wt, and its great! The reel I can't speak for, but its plastic so consider replacing it in the future. Or get the rod from cabelas for 60, a Hobbs creek from bass...

Re: Wooly Worms
Oh yes, they work for everything! I bought some yellow with red hackled and silver wire, they actually float for a few seconds first. Which can look like a caterpillar floating, then sinking! And...

Re: whirling desiese and felt soled boots.
I was lucky enough to get my license before the price doubled.(Which is a real kick in the behind)
I don't have to worry about spreading whirling disease, as I don't use waders.

Re: skip's dad (crayfish imitation)
I like the chenille version, it gives more the illusion of legs. Maybe tie some rubber legs with a knot to point them down? Or some marabou to give a swimming effect.

Re: Any Northeast Flyfishers?
Well if theres Delaware, Maine, and Maryland residents here, the best mid-way state would be north new york. Maybe during the salmon run.

You made my "super sucker" leech!:O
Looks good, I should try making one with sparkle in it.
And can I get a link to the fly recipe you based it off of?

Re: Damsel/dragon fly nymphs
Ah yes the stretch tubing damselfly. I've been making that one for quite a while, some with wire as a ribbing, some with lead eyes, even some with chenille as a torso cover in place of pheasant tail.

Re: Night fishing for browns?
I bet anything that makes a plop at night will work. Silhouette won't matter much, heck a mouse fly might work! Which isn't a bad idea at night.
But try an al's foam hopper in black.
Foam Panfish...

Re: Night fishing for browns?
I don't think anyone here has mentioned crickets. Crickets are creatures of the night, and so they are hopping around, perhaps into the water. Try some big black cricket fly patterns, if possible tie...
