For what it's worth, the Fish and Game fellas that walk and boat the lower Stanislaus in CA have been reported to take a piece of cotton accros that barb of a hook and if it grabbed any of the cotton...

I'm not sure where the Ell is. At first glance I thought you were talking about the Eel which I've heard, at least used to be, a legendary river for steelies.

I've never had any formal teaching on tying flies, I just learned some here and there from friends and relatives, but it seems that no matter how many times I'me shown, my hackle comes out loose....

Hat creek. Access sucks, but it's worth the trouble. I usually fish more in Central California, if you live from Sacramento to Fresno I have lot's of favorites.

I've only fished the Snohomish once but I used to frequent the rivers on the Peninsula particularly the Sol Duc and Quillayute. I always had pretty good action with big purple egg sucking leaches...

I agree with above. I have had lot's of luck sinking Matukas in deep pools. I've even done pretty well sinking and even skimming the topwater with smaller brown Matukas in some of the colder lakes...

North Fork of the Stanislaus. It's not particulary productive and late summer it gets pretty technical, but its one I grew up on.

Reel seat replacement

Happy Thanksgiving!

I was hoping someone could tell me how to reinstall a reel seat that has come off of my dad's old fly rod. He still wants to use this old rod but can't without reattaching it....
