Re: The death of newspapers?

I'm one of those younger generation people that are likely partly to blame for the deaths of printed news. I don't have any newspaper delivered. Instead, I subscribe to a few online subscriptions. I...

Re: Musky Rod recommendation

Hopefully I don't come off sounding like a jerk in response to this post.... but I figured it was worthy of a response.

One thing that any dedicated musky fly fisherman will tell you is that if...

Re: Black flies

Saw my first few on Saturday here in Northern Wisconsin as well. One took a pretty good chunk out of my foot, and I made sure that was the last thing it EVER bit. Sad to think that we're still a few...

Re: Video - Probably posted before but worth a second look.

That was my favorite video that year at F3T. I had a grandfather who suffered from Parkinsons, so it really hit home with me. He was also the person that really instilled in me a love for fishing and...

Re: Follow the rules, I got my first ticket. :(

Dewayne,

I've been there one time, but never again. About 8 or 9 years ago, I was on a kayak trip and got stopped by a DNR officer for a lifevest check. I didn't think anything of it, because I...

Re: For Streamer Junkies: Dry Fly Anglers, Discretion Advised!

Craig is an a fun town to spend a few days in. World class angling, and a good place to have a few drinks after a long day on the water.

Re: warmwater pics

Nice Bowfin! I love those things.

Cool craw pattern too! I think I'll tie one or two of those up for my own box.

Re: Who Needs a GoPro I have the Lily!

That thing is beyond cool. I bet it's also beyond anything my salary could afford. :)

Edit - After a bit of searching, it appears that when this releases it's initial price is going to be...

re: Springtime in Wyoming (updated)

You don't post near enough trip reports, Larry! I could read, and re-read these all day long. Very nice.

Re: Fly Line

Just about every fly line company has a line with specs that I'd consider good for bass flies.

A few off the top of the my head:

Rio Smallmouth
Rio Outbound
Rio Mainstream bass

SA Titan...

Re: Flies for fast river smallies

Not knowing what river you're talking about makes it hard to give any decent advice. But here's my thoughts on things you could do to improve your catch on just about any swift river.

Whether I'm...

Re: camping near viroqua?

This is a good piece of advice. Very reasonably priced too if I remember correctly.

Re: Tying a bass leader

How big of streamers/bass bugs are you using? Also, what kind of fly line?

Bass leaders don't need to be overly complicated at all. If I'm throwing smaller streamers like size 2-6 buggers, then...

Re: Pike and Muskie line questions

Outbound short would be my choice as well.

Where in MN are you going to be working this summer, and when are you going to be there?

If sometime early June, then you'll be okay tossing smaller...

Re: Starter SMB fly box

Clousers really can't be beat. Tequillys for summer, some yellow or white poppers, Murdich minnows, and maybe just a few simple sz 2-6 woolly buggers in white or black.

I will add this little...

Re: Best site for bass flies?

Depends on how much you want to spend and what flies your really looking for. Blockhead poppers are relatively cheap because not a whole lot of effort needs to go into them. Well tied deer hair...

Re: Pike line problem

I use snap swivels on a lot of my leaders. But you need to be aware of the weight/size of the swivels because they will affect the movement of your flies. It also depends on the type of bite guard...

Re: Pike line problem

I'd ditch the streamer express, but that's just me. Fish poppers on a slow sinking intermediate like itchmesir said, and get yourself a better sink line that doesn't coil as bad as streamer express...

Re: You just paid $50 for nippers. What's Next?

As I was sitting on the banks of my local today, clipping the tag end of a knot off with Abel Nippers, I thought to myself... "I wish I hadn't left my chapstick in the car." I then proceeded to not...

Re: Musky on a Fly

I just quoted a few points that I disagree a bit with

Casting a fast action rod is no more laborious than casting a slow action rod. When casting musky flies, it's all tough. If you don't have...

Re: Itch's Trip Report

I'm just thinking out loud here, but I think we need to bring an additional fishing partner with us on our trips this year. Preferably someone who has some skill around a grill. Ha!

Sure must be...

Re: Anyone fish a short rod on a kayak?

I'm also a fan of regular length rods in the 9' range in my kayak. I haven't had much trouble being able to land fish with them, so I've never felt a need to have a specialized kayak rod. I keep a...

Hey wait a second. Why don't you ever grill anything tasty like that up when I'm around? :)

That's a nice place to spend an afternoon.

Re: OK, What's a 9 wt for??

Like others have said, each fly rod is situational in nature. There are days where, if fishing for largemouth, a 6wt will do just fine. But there are others that I need to go up to a 8 or 9wt at...
