Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

Wow. Can't say I blame you there. I would have a sour taste in my mouth with those guys and, candidly, I'd have canceled it and told them to shove it where the sun don't shine at this point. ...

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

It takes me 4 1/2 hours to get to my "home" waters. More if I leave on a Friday afternoon after work. It get's tiresome, and I don't make day trips any longer so I usually make it at least an...

Re: The Driftless gang has been pretty quiet, anybody having any success?

The absolute worst part about Driftless fishing. They're brutal. Head net, Buff, whatever it takes... they crawl on your glasses, in your ears, up your nose. It's torture! Buggins spray does...

Re: Black Canyon of the Gunnison - what an S.0.B.

Outstanding. I'm not in near good enough shape and I'm no longer crazy enough to do that hike. 15-20 years ago maybe.

I've fished with Rich a couple times in the Midwest. I need to ask him...

Re: The Shimano Beancounters Just Wrecked Loomis

Yep - that's the rub. It's part of the reason they cost $800. I'm not buying another NRX - and it's a shame, because I love my Loomis rods - NRX 9 weight and Native Run 8 weight.

Re: The Driftless gang has been pretty quiet, anybody having any success?

Have heard fishing has been fantastic. I've fished Wisconsin this year less than I have in years for a number of reasons - such a bummer for me. Get out there if you can as water temps this year...

Re: Laces vs BOA

Laces - no worries in the field. I do not want another item to put in my pack - which would be necessary if I went with BOA. What's so hard about lacing boots anyway.

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

I fish a lot of Abel reels. I have them in the Big Game 0 (ought), through a Super 9. On the trout sizes I fish, 0, pt.5, Super 4 & 4N, I find that low end drag settings can be tempermental. I...

Re: Good cooler that stays cold?

That's the key Ard - Blocks of ice. They last so much longer than loose ice. They take up more room so you have the trade off, but they definitely make a huge difference.

Re: Net your own fish

Sorry, mate. I've run many yards down the river bed with screaming 20+ lb King Salmon on Michigan's PM and without my guide or buddy running along with me with the net, I would never land those fish...

Re: 9', #5 Rods - master of nothing....

I have a ton of rods, 3 through 9 weights without skipping a single line weight. They all have their place. Ironically, when fishing the spring creeks in Wisconsin this past May the rod I used the...

Re: Costa del mar lens color?

Get the gray base. I fish the green/amber. Great lenses but I'd want something darker off shore. I find the green lens to be spectacular fishing inshore street, rivers and creeks.

Re: Casting fatigue question

As I get older my tolerance for the type of day you describe lessens and I experience fatigue. Would an improved casting stroke help? Maybe. But my supposition is that it was the length of the...

Re: Eleven Mile Canyon 5/4/14

Have had the pleasure of fishing there. Definitely picky fish and some challenging runs. Spectacular beauty up through there.

Re: Sage XP 690-4

It is the 690-4, not the 691-4 which has the fighting butt.

Cheers,
Mike.

Re: 6-Weight Renaissance

I am weird, and harmless! I own a stupid array of 3, 4 and 5 weights. For an upcoming trout trip to fish spring creeks I'll take:

2 3 weights - in case one of them gets damaged - one is 8' 6"...

Not to derail this thread at all, but I've been flyfishing exclusively for 10+ years and have had a fly rod in my hand for 15, have built an amazing quiver of rods that I know for a fact I'm not...

Re: Loop Opt Stream rods

I haven't cast either the Stream or Multi. For reference, the majority of my fly rods are Sage rods with a couple Loomis rods in 8/9 weights. I enjoy my Opti Creek - if the Opti Stream is similar,...

Re: Loop Opt Stream rods

The Loop rods, especially the single handers, have a very small following in the US. Part of it is because they're not found very many places. I fish a Loop Opti Creek 8' 8" 3 weight that is an...
