Re: St Croix's standing in the fly fishing scheme of things

I know what you mean about the LU 6wt. I live in Central IA and that is my primary warm water i.e. Smallmouth Bass rod.

Re: Best reel for a classic trout Rod?

A click and pawl reel is not hard to use. And if you do hook into a bigger fish, if necessary, you can palm the reel with your off hand. If you are looking for an inexpensive reel with a drag instead...

Re: St Croix's standing in the fly fishing scheme of things

Being from the Midwest, I am very familiar with and like St Croix rods. In fact, all but one of my graphite fly rods are St Croix.

8' 5wt Pro Graphite - first rod and still fish it for bluegills...

Re: Allen Trout ll gunmetal question

I have the Trout II in gun metal. It is not bright and shiney like my Orvis Mid Arbor. I have the Trout II on my 5wt and have used that set up on some bright sunny days without any reason to think...

Re: How to evaluate the risk of Smaller-sized Companies?

Justin, glad to see you weighing in on this topic

If fly rods were sold without a warranty, how would that affect the price of the rod? Whether true or not, there seems to be a belief in the fly...

I have an Allen Trout II...

Re: Is there that big of a difference? Old vs. New

As pete a mentioned, rods today are lighter and faster than those of even 10 years ago. To some that may or may not be a big deal. On occassions I still fish bamboo for trout, but when it comes to...

Re: Legend Elite saltwater vs. freshwater differences?

Ted

I have a 9' 8wt LESW. Don't know the difference from the fresh, but why not call St Croix and ask them. TF 800-826-7042. I'll bet they would be glad to take your call.

Rise Fly Rods - Specifically the Balance

I was looking for a back up 8wt for an upcoming smallmouth trip and was leaning towards a TFO Pro, but then I found Rise and the price caught my eye.

Has anyone fished one of these rods? They say...

Re: Rod Warranty

As already been mentioned, rod warranties are tacked on to the price of the fly rod. If the warranty were transferrable, the price of the rod would go up. Not everybody sells their fly rod after one...

Re: Help on Fly Line Float Performance

I believe you want the Green Mucilin which has silicone.

I would think that if you are only greasing the fisrt few feet of the tip and cleaning your line on a regular basis, you should not have a...

Re: BVK vs. VXP vs. Response vs. Imperial

I have an 8wt Legend Elite SW and it is a fast rod. I also own two Imperials but they are both 4 wts so it is hard for me to compare the two.

I bought the 8wt to take to the salt and over lined...

G Loomis Shore Stalker

A recent float trip for smallmouth bass in NE WI has me thinking about getting a new fly rod. Specifically a 7wt.

I was wondering if anyone owns one and what are your thoughts? I looked at them...

I use SA Headstart on my 6wt and Orvis Warm water bass bug taper on my 8wt when fishing for smallies. I like both lines.

Mark, I have a Cimarron 4 on my 8wt. They're a good reel. Check out tradenstuff.com. He normally has a good variety of Ross reels.

Lost my net

I was fishing Waterloo below Bee Bridge and the pasture at French Creek. The net is a South Bend with a measure net zip on bag. If anyone happens to find it, I would appreciate a shout.

Re: Spare spool, what line?

If I am not mistaken, the performance taper fly line was for faster action rods and casting long distances. Before I would go and buy a spare spool and another line, I would do one of two things....

Re: How do yall hold your tippet spools?

I too keep mine in a pocket in my vest. I hate a bunch of things dangling around. As already been mentioned, just something else for line or leader to get caught in.

Re: Which Line?

Adrian, I own both an 8 1/2 & 9 4wt St Croix Imperial. Don't ask me why I have two of them, but I really like that rod. Infact, I am a big St Croix fan. The line I use is SA Trout line in a wff. I...

Between the two, go with the 6wt. It's been mentioned that you want to buy/fish the rod and line weight based on the size fly you are going to cast and not the size fish you expect to catch.

My...
