Re: white fly rod??

Dan,

I put epoxy on the guide wraps, I didn't paint it. The epoxy was way too thick and way too heavy for the tip. I don't remember what I put it on with - probably a toothpick or sliver of wood...

Re: white fly rod??

A friend of mine imports CTS blanks, and also builds a few rods for friends. I cast two of his rods and really, really liked them - one in particular. The only downside I can see would be time...

No, thank you for taking the time all these years to share what you've learned through your years of expeience with fish, techniques and tackle.

No question in my mind that you will have many...

Re: Evolution of an Angler

I liked the tower cast at 3:24, but bailed like you Stenacron once it started sounding llike a Peta infomercial. But since I haven't done one in years, I grabbed an 8 wt and tried a few to see if I...

Re: Newby casting dilema

Siver,

I hope they never quit making pliobond or change the recipe. You can tell from the smell that it's known to Californians to cause brain warts and blindness.

I try a lot of new products...

Re: North American fishing club product tester?

I agree 100% Ard.

In the "rod" category, it would take me less than 30 seconds to determine if I would even ever use it fishing once. Fly lines - the same - except for the amount of time required...

Re: Am I overreacting?

It's obvious that your bro-in-law is not a real fisherman.

It would never even occur to a real fisherman to shorten his partner's fishing time. That's why fishing partners "plan" fishing trips.

Re: Damn! That was a humbling experience.

Chechem is absolutely correct! They are very tasty. I don't eat any over 3-4lbs , but they do taste good. They are very mild. Many people are put off by tales of cigatera, but even more by the smell...

Re: Uplining

I'm not sure of the reason for the question. No question it can be done. Lasse Karlsson has a video of him casting a 12 wt Rio Outbound on a 3 wt, 6'6" Echo Rod (particularly noted for their...

Re: Casting into the wind

Don't feel bad Swirl. It took me two years just to learn the mechanics of what I had been doing for 50 years previously and why. Even then, I needed a video camera and a special switch that lit up...

Re: Casting into the wind

Silver has it nailed. His point 4B cannot be emphasized enough though he italicized it. You simply cannot shoot line into a strong headwind. (Edit: May be possible with some short shooting heads and...

Re: Streamers, How I got Hooked on Swinging;

Really good thread, Ard. That brook you pictured is about the same size as one flowing through very good friends' land in the middle of Nowhere Colorado that I fished in the late 70's -80's. Ten...

Short chuckle

I heard one of my nephews, who loves to fish but does little of it, swearing in the bathroom about the Chinese.

I hollered out at him asking what was the problem, and he said that they didn't...

Re: Spring fishin: PEI Streams and Rivers

They sure were full of trout 50 + years ago - both sea run Brookies and "Austrian" Brown Trout in some of the lakes. Don't know about the Salmon. I caught my first brown in a small lake there...

I usually get an error message saying "Page is re-setting". I don't know if that helps your website man or not, but it has been happening pretty frequently at night lately.

Re: Anyone trending upward in rod weight?

Good one, Ard!

Brookfield, I think Ard may be using a little "poetic license" there. Judging from pictures, I seem to recall, of Ard holding Silver and King Salmon, I suspect he's gotten into a ...

Re: Vertical casting vs non-vertical

I agree. We may simply be using different symantics and definitions. Casting fundamentals are nothing more than derivitives of laws of physics.

The widely divergent style difference between...

Re: Vertical casting vs non-vertical

It doesn't surprise me, Jackster, since off-vertical casting is not nearly so accurate - in reasonably calm conditions.:D

Let me put it another way, that is much easier to visualize. Imagine a...

Visualization works well for quite a few people including me,as does pantomime. And also when I get something exactly right, I try to immediately recapture what it felt like when it all came...

Re: Vertical casting vs non-vertical

So far we have :

Non-vertical Pros:

1)Keeps the line away from the body more than vertical cast.
2) Good for getting under obstructions.
3) A low casting plane will help keep the line out of...
