Re: need help with some bug terms...and anatomy differences

As for...

Re: articulated flies in multiple fly, catch and release areas?

That regulation is all about treble hooks, but I would think that a fly with more than one hook would be seen as similar.
I know that in fly only waters that allow multiple flies, the flies have to...

Re: green drake emerger pattern

That's interesting.
On the local river the green drakes hatch at the same time as what we call the alder fly (zebra caddis), a very prolific hatch.
I've often watched the big drakes float down...

Re: Hang marker

Lefty recommends tying in a nail knot for this purpose.

Years ago I thought about doing this as I was fishing at night a lot and thought it might help.
I found that as I normally cast the same...

Re: Feathers vs Soft Plastic

Ard, wasn't that the story where when he was flying to a lodge he lost all his flies when they dropped from the plane.
The only material there to tie new flies from was a wolf pelt on the wall.
So...

Re: best crappie fly ?

You don't have to wait long for the thread to come loose and the palmered hackle to unravel and trail like a shuck. I think that they're made to do that from the get-go.

Crappy ? All my flies are crappy !

No seriously, you know those little cheapass cork size 10 poppers that come in the little round fly box ? Those are crappy ! They're also good for crappie.

Did you look at the links ?
I know for a fact that many fly fishermen fish the harbor islands
There's connecting ferrys to the different islands, some of which have camping
You can't tell me...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

I'd say that it's pretty apparent that a good number of people here take the gear that they fish with extremely seriously. There's no end of threads comparing "this reel to that reel" or "what rod...

Re: lifetime warranty rods / outfits?

Orvis started the whole warranty system. The other companies were forced to conform and hated them for it.
If Orvis dropped their warranties now the others would chase them through the night with...

You can buy yourself some of these store bought hackle guards, but you can do the same thing with an index card
Another way is to keep a small section of drinking straw on the tube of your bobbin....

Lightbulb Re: Evolution of an Angler

Back 20-25 years ago you could buy what they called T.A.G. hooks. (Touch and Go)
Rather than a sharp edge on the pointy end, there was another "eye"... just like the ring that you tied on to.
That...
