Re: Tippet Ring Knot

I agree. For the size of trout I chase, a simple Davy knot on both ends of the tippet works for me. :punk:

Re: The Slow Demise of "Honor..."

Jerry, what comes to mind is a saying that goes like this: "No ticky - No laundry".
It's sad that we have to practice this motto but the only way to safeguard ourselves these days. I always practice...

Re: Wanted: Norvise system

Bought one a few months ago. I have not tied flies prior to that so not used to any other vise. Also purchased several additional bobbins and just picked up the fine point jaws. Makes tying size 18...

Re: New Dead Abel

IMHO they will offer further releases to encourage sales similar to that of collector plates, as a collector you can't just stop at one. You have to continue buying in order to complete the set....

Re: Abel Dancing Bears Grateful Dead Series Reels

Not sure what this well known manufacturer is trying to do with their image. This looks like something that you would hang over your grandson's crib for a mobile. Are they trying to appeal...

Re: CDC Black Flying ant

Walter, I have been fly tying only a couple of months now and I keep coming back to this thread. Your pictures of ants have got me tying ants as well as spiders. There are times when these might be...

Re: skunked real bad need help

Good one guy! I have been skunked on a number of occasions but never regretted it so long as I was able to get out and enjoy nature. On the other hand, I have been "skunked" by the real thing and...

Re: Input needed on new 5wt :)

I have always been a" dyed in the wool " Sage fan (older models) and so have never looked sideways at Winston. So no comment on that particular rod. You say that the Nexus isn't out yet so I not sure...

Re: Rod Love; the Fly Rod Picture Thread

Thanks Ard, this is a rod that will take some practice getting used to. Heavy in comparison to my 4 weight glass rods so I can't use any of my Lightweight series reels. The builder suggested a DT4F...

Re: Rod Love; the Fly Rod Picture Thread

I am working on my photographic level but for now here is my intro to Boo. Definitely not glass or graphite! A Garrison 204E, 7'-3', 4 weight for small stream trout fishing. I fish it with a Hardy...

Re: You favorite wet fly ?

Sorry, no pics at the moment but I have to say, my most successful wet/nymph pattern is the "black magic nymph" tied as a dropper off an "elk hair caddis dry.

WTB Sage 389-3 fly rod. Offer would depend on condition.

Sorry for the typo, the request is for a 389-3 LL (light line). The LL was not mentioned in the original post.

Re: St Croix's standing in the fly fishing scheme of things

The question of the OP was why ST. Croix isn't considered in the "top tier rods".
I have never owned, nor fished a St. Croix. My loyalty has always been to Sage and Hardy. IMHO, St. Croix is not...

Re: Any Sage Light Line fans?

Hey catskilljohn,
I don't think that I am related in any way but you can reach out to me as well if you find an extra 389-3 LL. Mum would love you for it but I just can't pay $600.00 for it! :D

Re: The Shimano Beancounters Just Wrecked Loomis

Re: Floating Leadres and Tippet

Check out the Cutthroat Leader website. They have an excellent flottant for their furled leaders and if you are fishing a boo, don't use a silicone based product. Good thing is Mike also carries an...

Re: Is there that big of a difference? Old vs. New

IMO I think there has been a noticeable improvement in rod design, enabling the fishing enthusiast to enjoy his day on the water. I believe that one has to look back more than a few years to see that...

Re: How long is too long for a leader?

I guess that you will never know unless you try it. I will give it a go, can't hurt my cast. I have been using Cutthroat furled leaders as of late and love them. Just add a short piece of tippet. As...

Re: 5 wt. vs. 5/6 wt.

I find this topic interesting in that I recently had a custom built rod made for me and wanted it to be modern day glass. I chose to go with a 4 weight and my favorite builder suggested a blank...
