Re: Scott Radian line. recommendation?

I run Rio Perception on my 9' 5wt Radian and feel it's a great all around trout line.

Which Steelhead Flies to Buy?

Heading to Pulaski NY to fish the Salmon River for steelhead in November and I'm starting to think about what flies to pick up for the trip. To those of you who have fished there for steelhead...

Re: tying on tippet rings

Yeah you are exactly right. That's what I like about it. I think I may start doing that. So if you are fishing say a 7x, would you then tie say a foot of 5x, foot of 6x, and foot of 7x, or would...

Re: tying on tippet rings

Thanks for the info Lee. I usually buy the 9ft in 5x and/or 6x and cut off about 3ft then tie on my tippet rings and add 3ft of tippet in 5x, 6x, or 7x. I like the idea of just getting the 7 1/2 ft...

Re: tying on tippet rings

Lee,

So you are using about a foot and a half of tippet onto this rig?

Where do you guys put your tippet rings? Meaning how much of the leader do you cut off?

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

Jaybo41,

If I were to go with that rod, what reel would be the best choice? I read that article again and it said he is using a Rio 5/6 Switch line.

I'm thinking maybe it's a better idea to...

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

Thanks for the advice. Did not realize the weight designations for 2 handed rods were different than single handed. Also, I think maybe I had 8wt burned into my brain, but I forgot the reason I...

Re: Pulaski NY Steelhead Gear

Not taking a guide, my step brother is taking me. He has been fishing the river for 20ish years. Just trying to get everything together that I need to take with me. Curious what you guys use that...

Pulaski NY Steelhead Gear

Hey guys,

Went up to Pulaski NY to fish Salmon River for Kings last year and I'm heading up again this year, but this time for steelhead. I'm was curious what gear you guys use that are familiar...

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

$300 is the budget for a rod only. I have an 8wt reel to go on it, which is why I'd like to stick to an 8wt. Doesn't have to be 10', but from what I'm told from guys who fish there often is that...

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

Thanks again, but as previously mentioned looking for something in 8wt.

Anyway, would really appreciate any advice on what you guys are using as opposed to what you have for sale. If you have...

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure it's a great rod, but most of the local guys who fish Pulaski for steelhead tell me that 10' is the minimum length I want to go with.

On a side note, even...

2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

Hey Guys,

Last year when I started fly fishing I went on my first trip right around this time, which was for salmon in Pulaski NY. I purchased my first fly outfit, which was a 10' 8wt Orvis...

I'm relatively new to fly fishing so I can't speak to the time that you are referring to when Sage was what people always compared to. Maybe they were once the leader and now the other companies...

Re: Is Orvis SFT Being Discontinued?

As much as I love what Scott is putting out it is tough to not take a look at the SFG and SFT with a $200+ less price tag than the F2 & G2. My biggest complaint with the SFT is the Jay-Z pimped out...

Re: Scott F2 3wt Length

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the 3wt F2 has thenlocking reel seat. I think they just have a cork reel seat with slides. I'm with you though I much prefer a locking reel seat! Especially...

Re: Scott F2 3wt Length

Ok, ok, no need to get testy anyone, we are comparing fly rods, not solving the world's problems.

Fox, I think why people like to contradict you is the fact that you are so blatant that Orvis is...

Re: Reel for G Loomis NRX 9' 9wt

S&S, I remember you talking about how the backing was tight with the 7+ for 8wt, which lead me to believe there was no way I'd get away with it for the 9wt. When looking at the 9+ I feel it's just...

Reel for G Loomis NRX 9' 9wt

Hey Guys,

Originally thought I'd be purchasing a G Loomis NRX 9' 8wt rod for bonefishing. Have been going back and forth on if I'd go with a Hatch 7+ or Nautilus NV 10/11 G-8.

Now, based on...
