Re: Leader Question

Yes, they are reusable. They are made of the same or similar stuff as old fashion mono fishing line on a spinning reel. The design is different though. For example a 9' 5X leader will be somewhere...

Re: A question for the fun of it ?

Since you were generous enough to make it one trout rod and not one rod for everything it would be doable. Sage One 486 for me.

Re: Let's see your travel tying kit..

I have a minimalist travel kit. I mostly use the travel tying kit for killing time in hotel rooms when on non-fishing trips. It is always packed so I can just grab it on the way out the door.

I...

Re: Anyone tried the Regal imitation?

Absolutely go with the real deal since that is specifically what he asked for.

One option, if money is tight, is to buy the head and stem for $145 and use his existing clamp or pedestal base. ...

Re: Storing tippet

When I'm switching back and forth a lot I just hang the dry with tippet still attached on a drying patch. For example, if I'm fishing dries on 5x and a nymph on 4x I make the cut at the end of the...

How long does it take a trout to start feeding again after feeling the hook?

Well, not as long as I thought.

Friday night I hit a local stream after work. I hooked a nice fish for this stream and broke him off after a couple seconds. Reeled in and found the tell tale...

Re: Retrieve on Abel Creek

Actually the easiest switch ever, it is just a matter of which way you put the line/backing on. You can then adjust the incoming and outgoing click pressure by turning the cams above the spring in...

Re: High End Fly Rod Suggestions

Another thing to keep in mind when test casting rods is what line you are using. For example, if the shop has one 5 wt demo reel with a GPX on it any you try 3 or 4 5wt rods the softer ones aren't...

Re: Trout streams near quad cities

The closest would be a couple streams in Jackson county, about one hour but I wouldn't recommend them. Next would be Dubuque county; about an hour and a half drive, with a couple decent streams but...

Re: Fly Rod to Match

I have never cast the Redington Classic Trout so take this for what it is worth. My understanding of the rod's characteristics and other rods it has been compared to that I have cast there is no...

Re: Rods you regret buying...

I am truly regretting buying my Sage ONE 486. I am so impressed with that rod I now want a 690 and 890:)

Re: Absorbine Jr. On fly line?

Absorbine Jr. does seem to work on the gnats but I think you need to reapply every 20 minutes or so if they are really bad. Bug Soother is another product that seems to work well for the gnats.

Re: Tactics for the dog days of summer?

Fish early morning; coolest time of the day. Also, look for broken water which will have more oxygen. Long shaded stretches of the stream won't warm as fast. Where springs come in can be cooler...

Re: The Driftless gang has been pretty quiet, anybody having any success?

Re: Winston GVX, Scoot, G. Loomis, St. Croix 4wt

The choice between the Imperial and GVX is a tough call that only you can make. I have an Imperial 7'6" 4 wt 2pc and a GVX 8' 4wt 4pc. Both nice rods in my opinion. For the subjective, I agree...

Re: Route Advice Sought.....

You should see plenty of corn fields through Iowa and Nebraska although the land along I-80 is going commercial in many areas. Take a side trip on some of the county roads and you will see nothing...
