Re: Is it possible to enjoy fly fishing when you catch no fish?

The tuber stories remind me of our anniversary trip to the Delaware Water Gap a few years ago. We hadn't been there in years, and were ready for several days of hauling in spectacular smallmouth....

Re: Is it possible to enjoy fly fishing when you catch no fish?

I should have read the original post more carefully. We live just outside of Philadelphia, and suburban sprawl is everywhere(!!!). What were once secluded spots get hundreds of kids, parents, and...

Re: Is it possible to enjoy fly fishing when you catch no fish?

Well, I'm much more content on those days when I do catch at least one fish. Two years ago, we had an incredible run on smallmouth that lasted from late March to late May. These were honking big...

Re: Who still uses a vest?

I used a small shotgun shell pouch a few years ago, and it was alright. I was always digging down to the bottom, and went back to a vest. I saw a small hip bag, and thought that would work. It drove...

Re: Reel for Sage 7wt (without totally breaking the bank)

Excellent choice! Love the looks, feel, sound, and performance. Best of all, Galvan is a family owned and operated company, and customer service is excellent (should you ever need it).

Re: Reel for Sage 7wt (without totally breaking the bank)

I sold all of my Asian made reels, and use USA made reels on my USA made Sage rods. You can find some really good deals on Ross, Abel, and Galvan reels on ebay. I've bought several Brand new Ross...

Re: Solo canoe Fly fishing?

I've been using a folding anchor on lakes for several years: 3 lb Galvanized Folding Kayak Anchor at Get:Outdoors (http://www.shopgetoutdoors.com/3-lb-folding-kayak-anchor.html)

I don't use it...

Re: Solo canoe Fly fishing?

When my wife and I fish from a canoe, I get to play guide. I'm not sure, but don't guides get to fish once in a while during a trip, because I don't.
She sits in the bow, and doesn't see...

Re: Is This a Tick?

Hi Guys,
In the reading I did a few days ago, I found the Deer Tick is now called the Black Legged Tick (as Rip Tide mentioned). Seems that someone thought the little bugger was a new species 30...

Re: Solo canoe Fly fishing?

We eventually settled on behind the sofa. :D It's a David Yost design, and is deceptively stable and fast. The black color is carbon fiber, making the hull quite stiff (Kevlar alone is flexible)....

Re: Sage noobies

If nothing else, the Accel is a nice shade of green. Speaking of green, my 9' 5wt Z-Axis became my main rod again last year. That position had been occupied by the Sage 4wt ZXL, but I fish a local...

Re: Is This a Tick?

I should mention that only one flew away, and I flicked off the others. This was the sole clinger, and it kept scurrying around while I tried to take a pic. I saw them on the tops of rocks in the...

Re: Is This a Tick?

Hi Guys!
Well, one of them flew away, so flying beetle sounds right. I live in Southeast PA, and Lyme disease is rampant here. My father sent me for every type of blood work imaginable last week,...

Is This a Tick?

I'm way too tick ignorant, unless I see them sucking blood from someone's arm. I've been picking these of my waders, but I'm not going past any type of vegetation....???

Re: Casting long leaders -- tips

I tied the Borger version of the Harvey leader a few years ago, when Jason was using four sections. They did what was advertised, and I only used them on a few ocassions. I agree with you completely...

Re: Casting long leaders -- tips

If you want to save time, google up Gary Borger Harvey Style leaders. Borger ties them with just THREE sections. I've used them, and they work well.

Re: Orvis' new Superfine Glass rod - video

Good to be here. :)

I saw the rod being loaded into what appeared to be a long PVC tube, and wondered if they decided to go one piece. 4-PC rods just work better for me, especially since my car...

Re: Orvis' new Superfine Glass rod - video

Hi Larry! :)
Fishing was slow this year*, so I didn't have much to say. Even catching little the little ones was tough, so this rod might be nice if next year is the same as this one.

* The...

Re: I'm warming up to my Z-Axis...

A salesman at Cabelas strongly recommended the 905 Z-Axis when they first came out, and I bought one. It was true love at first, but then I became frustrated with casts beyond 40 feet. I realized...

Re: Sage Z-Axis question

It's been my experience with a 9' 5wt Z-Axis that the rod does not like to be pushed or rushed. My casting stroke is very compact with the Z-Axis, something I developed after finding the rod very...

Re: Joan Wulff's DVD?

I had it, and sold it here. Joan is an overhead caster, and I cast sidearm unless an overhead is the only thing that will work. There's not a lot on the DVD that you can't find on YouTube from Lefty...

Re: My first Abel question

I had a couple of Abel TR reels, and they were definitely more loud when on the rod. The rod is a hollow carbon cylinder, and I suppose that amplifies the sound of the reel. Drove me crazy sometimes,...
