Re: Rattan instead of cork....?

If your gonna add a little weight to a rod the grip seems a good place to do it. I doubt you'd really notice.

Re: Rattan instead of cork....?

No I haven't found them slippery. There is a bit of texture to it and feels great in hand.

Re: Rattan instead of cork....?

It's interesting to hear. I haven't felt it over hardwood so don't know the difference. I wouldn't have described the feel over cork as squishy, anymore than I'd describe cork as squishy. Perhaps...

Re: Is fly fishing an elitist activity?

Real fly fishers buy bespoke drinking water. My preferred beverage is a custom mix of waters in the States, Europe, and New Zealand.

Re: Rattan instead of cork....?

I've built two rods with rattan grips, both of them over cork and I didn't notice any issues. Here's one - a 2wt

Re: Superbowl 50 Pick and Tell Thread;

I have to go with Denver. Reason, well I live here! Seems as good a reason as any.

I'll definitely say Denver if these newscasters are right and the Florida Panthers show up. Hockey skates...

Re: immigrant reel invasion

Of the brands you list I have Orvis and Allen reels and recommend both of them for sure. The reels work great and look great as well. The customer service from both companies is stellar as well. I...

Re: Guide installation - Denver

Thanks for the referral! I sadly don't have time (have a few blanks waiting to be finished myself). But I'd contact Kevin at Colorado Custom Rods (http://www.coloradocustomflyrods.com/). He's a...

Re: Want something Epic for my 50th...but don't know what??

If I was planning an epic trip it would be as much about the people than the place. Actually more the people. I'd pick a place perhaps less exciting - Western trout stream or bass and musky in...

Re: Made my first net! Photo heavy!!

Wow, fantastic! An idea I've played around with, reading your post is inspiring. If you're up for some work without a lot of pay-off doing a step-by step would be great. I'd love to see your...

Re: Hook Keeper

It is interesting to hear others views on hook keepers. I've never seen them to be a big deal or to get in the way at all. Useful when fishing streamers on a short leader but otherwise out of the...

Re: Hook Keeper

The leader around the reel seat works well. I use it a lot. That said, I don't understand production rods not including hook keepers. I know that not everyone likes them, but they are small,...

Re: Guided Fly Fishing via Bicycle

Cool idea! Both a guided trip on a bike and the rod holder. However with my personal rods I'd probably take them down between spots!

Re: The 2016 Denver Fly Fishing Show

I went on Friday - took the day off and enjoyed the show. Picked up some basic stuff that was on sale like a nice Simms shirt etc. Grabbed some Sabre hooks, which I love as well as Ott's Soft...

Re: Shopping for a bass bugging rod in a 7wt..?

I have a TFO Mangrove blank in a 10wt that I finished for Musky. I love it. Can cast a sinking line with a large fly all day with it and I find it accurate. I haven't tried the 7wt, but love my...

Re: Is there a sticky or something?

First of all, welcome.

If you know the names of the flies then you can google them and you should get your answer. Reading a basic fly fishing book - check out some published by Orvis, written...

Re: The Bad Advice Thread

Start your forward cast right as the fly passes your ear on the back cast.

My issue is I think I smell a gas leak from behind the stove but it is too dark to see back there.

Re: Monster Rainbow on a Tenkara Rod

Cool video. Amazing fish. Though I'd never use my Tenkara rod in water that holds fish that big!
