Re: An important message from nobody special.

[/B]

You know, the use of a comma between these two sentences would drastically change the meaning -- as a married man, I believe you selected the correct punctuation ;).

Re: An important message from nobody special.

I try to stay civil, but there's one problem with that notion: Everyone is such an idiot, except for me. :)

As Bill Watterson said, most adults have a child inside (sometimes not too deep) that...

Re: Korkers Customer Service

I also had a good CS experience with Korkers about 2 year ago on a pair of redsides I had stitching problems with.

I fish nearly every day of the week, and most weekends for long hours and really...

Re: 6-Weight Renaissance

As a big water (+ SW) fly caster who casts in the side-elbow (pushing style) quite effectively, I just can't wait to hear it! :)

Pulling style is a great way to salute an officer, and also to...

Re: Hit the Secret Lake Saturday

Nice fishing! Speaking of this "secret lake" -- is it easy to find, or do you have to don the old "enchanted jockstrap" to step through the 3rd portal?

Re: Things I think I've learned and things I still struggle with

I actually don't agree with anything written above other than the part about using a longer stroke with slower rods.

I learned on a faster graphite rod and found that that rod actually covered...

Re: Things I think I've learned and things I still struggle with

Slower rods teach one how to load and unload a rod properly whereas fast rods tend to mask some of this in my opinion.

I use everything from fast graphite to old fenwick glass rods and enjoy...

Re: Thoughts on leader

You are fishing with a leader -- that's why your 7' piece of 10-pound test is. You just aren't using a tapered leader.

There's really nothing wrong with fishing a straight piece of mono for a...

Re: Tying a bass leader

Get as involved as you want with leader formulas, and then tell me how much it was worth when you hang a log or tree and snap off the fly and tippet back to the leader > tippet blood knot ;).

Re: Fly snagged on a bush...

This ^^. Just let it hang for a second and SLOWLY retrieve and it will often do a few loop-loop-loop and come undone. I do this on forward casts also, quite often really. I tend to fish a lot to...

Re: Bass fly line

+1 on the Headstart fly lines if you can still pick some up. I bought a couple of extras when I heard they were being discontinued because I like them so much. They have a short, fairly thick front...

Re: carp leader recipe.

Basically just "Ballpark" what you were doing with the rio leader. I use a 30-20-15-12 or 10 pound leader that is about 8-10' long, and with more butt than tippet.

You can go heavier in the...

Re: where did the thread go?

Oh it's easy -- I already need the XL waders due to my large foot size, so they easily accommodate the stick. ;)

Re: where did the thread go?

Me too -- there's nothing more enjoyable than making fun of tenkara.

It's totally rad, brah.

Kidding aside, I have a serious question: when tenkara fishing, how do you guys deal with that...

Re: easiet flies to tie for a newbie

+1. My first fly was a woolly bugger, but it requires palmering hackle, properly securing and using a ribbing wire, etc. I think the Charlie Craven book is about perfect honestly.

I'd start...

Re: 5wt To Handle Carp

You can fish tippet as heavy as you want on a lighter fly line -- there's no real penalty for it. You don't need a heavier fly line to unroll a heavier leader and tippet. I frequently use a 9'...

Re: Anyone fish a short rod on a kayak?

Sure, I have that rod. It is listed as a 3-4 weight, but I like it with a 4-5 weight line. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that rod, and you can put a lot of fish on it. I've mostly used mine...

Re: 5wt To Handle Carp

Are you coming into carp and warm water having started as a trout fisherman?

What do your typical carp waters look like? I'm in the DC area and when I fish for carp I use a 7-8 weight with a 30...

Re: Help with Kayak Fly Rod for Bluegills

On the treeless, huge sections of the Potomac river I fish a lot if the wind is at 20 mph or above, I'd just about rather go do something else regardless of rod action. :) That's 8-weight...

There's actually nothing wrong with breaking your wrist if your loops look tight and you can use it effectively. Gary Borger even mentions it -- for a good example of a "wristy" caster check out Ian...

TFO rod actions means....??

Hi -- I own several TFO rods and like them, but unlike some of the other companies (e.g. Ross) I cannot make sense of the expected rod actions based upon their "presentation" and "lifting power"...
