Re: Anyone else hate Rio Gold?

I'm largely in agreement with S&S's statement that the rod chooses the line. I would opine however that personal preference and how and where we may be fishing have an impact on that choice. Having...

Re: Ferrule tapeing

No tape for me but I do use ferrule wax. Graffitolin by Loon is by far my favorite stuff to use. A little goes a long way.

Re: Fly Tying Materials Fair Market Value????

Now that I've picked my jaw up from the floor. WOW:eek: That woman's father is my hero. The materials, storage, cabinets, meticulous labeling is nothing short of amazing. Nearly any adjective I...

Re: New boots?

Hi,

I don't fish the Truckee but have experience with felt and with rubber. My first boots were felt soled. I had studs in them and they were fine when my feet were wet. On river rocks with and...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

It sure is interesting how folks, myself included re-discover Sage rods of days gone by. SP, SLT, XP, ZXL, TXL, Z Axis and One are all rods I enjoy fishing. Well I haven't fished my SP yet, but...

Re: Hardy Duchess Question

Oh, I knew what they looked like, but I was hoping to see photos of yours. And you delivered! That's a beautiful reel. Expensive, but beautiful. It's nice to see them making more reels in the UK...

Re: Great Lakes Trib Steelhead Indicator Rod Suggestions

I love the PM, it's such a beautiful river system and beautiful country. I have to agree that a 10 footer is more ideal there, especially if you are running indicator rigs with lots of weight as...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

Thanks for such a great and detailed write up on your thoughts. The more I read about this new series the more, I like you, believed it would be that gap to fill the displaced ZXL Series. It's a...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

Bolt is stated as being G5 Technology, which puts it perhaps a little closer to TCX than the Method, which uses Konnetic Technology. This of course is true at least in terms of the composition of...

Re: Abel SD

I finally got my hands on one of them at my local shop. This was an Abel Black 4/5 version. Beautiful and incredibly well machined reel. The guys in the shop were commenting on how they were...

Re: Hardy Duchess Question

It runs in my mind that the Flyweights do not have the aforementioned tension screw either. I believe they start with the Featherweight on up. Those Duchess reels are beauties. I can see one...

Re: 10' rods a line size up from listed weight?

I don't own that rod but one thing to keep in mind with lines is that some of them are overweighted to begin with. On single hand rods, I like lines with longer bellies for lake run fish and stick...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

Thanks for starting this thread, I have yet to see one in person so it's interesting to hear thoughts from one aficionado to another. Having become accustomed to and appreciating the 3 letter rod...

Re: Ross or Hardy

From where I sit, the biggest differences between the Evo and Lightweight Series are:

1. drag vs. spring & pawl
2. modern vs. contemporary look

Both companies make fine reels so the good news...

I was a PC user going back to Windows 3.1 through Windows 7. I messed around with DOS computers before that too. In 2000, I bought the very best Dell Laptop I could get and it cost me a small...

I'm currently flint knapping some obsidian to use as my primary source of cutting but my backup is the finger nail clippers I ordered from Amazon. 14.99 for 14000 of them which I also use for fly...

Forget the stickers, especially if you're putting them on the outside of the spools. Go to the auction site and look at some exceptional vintage Hardy's, Sage 500, Orvis CFO or other reels that have...
