you guys tie some beautiful bugs, i am no where near this level of tieing and would be ashamed to even turn some in :p Only fly I can tie that looks half decent is a foam type bluegill fly with legs....

living in north dakota, open water fishing year round isnt an option sadly. last year my friends had to put their extensions on the ice augers to break through, so probably over 3-4 feet of ice?

ive been doing some research on the UL category and this has been some good help for me. lots of good reviews on that echo carbon 2wt, can pick a whole combo with line off cabelas for 225, not bad...

here is my 2nd attempt here. i had some chenille in wire that i used. it called for lead wire anyways so i figured id hit it at the same time. im sure it will rust, but thats fine.

Thanks for the help. You are 100% correct on what was going on. Tons of strikes but only 3 hook ups. Managed to catch 2 blue gills and 1 perch. I ended up taking it off as it was starting to fall...

45 minutes to the nearest tailrace for wild trout and salmon when they run

20 to 50 minutes for anything else, warm water and such.

Honestly I dont know what they were called, it was a little black one with rubber legs, and I had some luck with a very tiny one with copper wire on it. As you can see my fly vocabulary is pretty low...

So I was looking at the game and fish site for our state and found this little pond that I didnt know about that was about 20 miles away. It said it was full of perch, bluegill and rainbow stockers....

the floating line is a CABELAS PRESTIGE WF6F FLYLINE which is the line I usually use. The full sink line is a Cortland 333+ WF Sinking Fly Line. They are both new this year. Ive only used the full...
