Re: Home Depot?

If you tie, storage is a good option. HD has a ton of that stuff.

Re: 8wt set up or New tying vise???

You will save a small fortune tying your own flies. Easily enough to cover the cost of a nice 8WT outfit. Just purchase both now and you can do the math a little later.

All I hear is.................. "mmmmmmmmmmmmm, this Abel Kool-Aid is sure delicious, may I have another glass please?" :)

Enjoy your nippers and retractors, but expect no slack just because it...

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

Probably so. I suspect fish landing challenges are not a myth. I do hope nobody is around with a GoPro the first time I attempt to insert my first decent spey caught fish into my net, without...

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

Reel shopping is painful for me. Once you hit even $150 the modern reels have excellent drags. Comes down to looks and many of them look like a set of blingy custom wheels off a bad show car to me....

Re: What is your favorite Brand and model fly Rod?

Tha sentence end with a :) because I was joking. Sage makes some very fine rods. IMO so do most of the major manufacturers for that matter. Sorry if I offended you. It wasn't my intent.

Re: Orvis fly rod

I understand that. I live there. Big rod you can get out there farther. And at the end of it you are landing a 12" trout on an 8WT. I like your lighter switch rod plan better. But whatever...

Re: Orvis fly rod

If you are talking about a pond or some of the urban stocking program lakes I suppose you could chuck some line with it. Certainly not what I would take to my IA streams for maximum enjoyment. My...

Re: False cast and distance on the release

Silver and Wolfgren, appreciate the explanations. What is the casting limit (9ft single hand) for practical presentation in a fishing situation? Round numbers. 60-70-80? I realize the answer is...

Re: 9 Foot 4 Weight

Should be fun to fish for gills on a rod you built. I just got the last ingredients for an RDP 2WT and will be trying my rod building luck soon. I spent that much on hardware alone and it remains...

Re: Fellow artists

Anyone willing to sketch a fly for use on a clock glass face? I would transfer it to a pattern so my wife can etch it on a piece of wall clock door glass. This is not a commercial venture so you...

Re: Reel for a 10 wt under 150

Low end Sage reels have very nice drags and they are cheap. 1800-2000-2200 series. You can find them on closeout frequently. IMO, they are intentionally not sexy reels but they are all you really...

Re: Short Line Fishing The Long Rod;

Normal daughters ask for a pony. :) This is my punishment for taking her to Minnesota since she was born. I guess the baggage charges should be less than a baby moose. Watch her close or she is...

Re: Spey Casts Up Close;

Yes I wish I had recorded myself over a year ago and saved a LOT of frustration. The error I was making was so basic and easy to correct. If the water will stay open long enough for my spey gear to...

Re: Spey Casts Up Close;

Runningfish, the speed at which you can strip line is amazing ;)

The quality of your video is just excellent. The speed up and slow mo made it much easier to analyze what you were doing. Much...

Re: Maintaining a journal

It's a heavily pressured clear river where the trout are spooky and folks frequently get skunked. Wooly buggers don't work at all. If you catch any fish it is allowable to add at least 2 inches to...

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

It takes a minute to sink in. The simplest way gear wise is to stay one handed but if you didn't like the challenge you probably wouldn't be flyin in the first place. :) You can end up with about...

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

Me neither until recently, but trust me there are starkly contrasting opinions on how one should properly spool up their spey reel. It's all good, but you have to sort through the advice for your...
