Re: Ashe County Fishing

The South Holston is an incredible River. If I lived within an hours drive I would fish it as often as I could swing it.

Re: Leader advice for Smokies

Yep. Mike's hi-vis nymph leader is my go to for small stream fishing. Even if I'm just fishing a dry, I feel like the nymph leader just turns over the bushy flies I'm usually using on small mountain...

Leader advice for Smokies

Seriously... I can't think of many small stream situations where a 40' CAST is required (possible?) let alone a 40' leader... But then again, what do I know...

Re: Davidson River

Call DRO. And be prepared to find somewhere else to fish by noon. The water has been in the mid 70s every day lately.

Pisgah TU took a temp sample in the afternoon and observed dead fish and...

Re: Leader advice for Smokies

I was at a presentation earlier his year with an "expert" on the smokey mountains. He said he fishes 40' leaders (no, that's not a typo) and hasn't gotten caught in a tree in 30 years. ::rollseyes:: ...

Re: Matching Fly Rod and Fly Line Scientifically

I seriously had to check the date in the OP as I thought this may be an April fools joke. I think a much cheaper solution would be for local fly shoos to have a range of lines ready for testing with...

Re: Fishing Carolina beach

I honestly don't know about the usefulness of the 6wt. When I'm at the beach I'm usually surf fishing. There are certainly some ponds in the Wilmington area you could fish though, but again, I don't...

Re: Orvis hydros sl vs Larson liquid

I really like the look and feel of the Lamson liquid, especially like the package deal with the reel and two spools for $150. Can't beat that price and Lamson stands behind their products.

Re: Fishing Carolina beach

I've fished with Capt. Allen, though it's been a few years. I would definitely recommend him.

Re: What do you feel is YOUR most important "TOOL" when fishing?

I'd say the most important tool to come out of this thread is the ability to resist buying whatever tool you're trying to figure out we all need in order to have the most essential tool.

Re: Enrico Puglisi Flies

I think one of the biggest appeals of EP fibers is the action they impart and the profile you can achieve as well as their hydrophobic properties, while keeping weight on the hook shank to a minimum,...

Re: When Wife Tells You to Go Fishing, You Go!

Incredible! Thanks for sharing. I'd like to fish that stretch sometime. We don't have many fish that big in NC, let alone congregated into one bit of water.

Re: I will be fishing my first glass rod.

I'm am sure Mike would suggest a furled leader for every Rod! And hide featherlights are a heck of a lot of fun. Beware of the slippery slope! I started into glass with a $21 featherlight and now...

Re: CT Set up Questions

I would say definitely go with a true to weight line for that Rod. I've grown to greatly prefer Scientific Angler's to the other brands, and would suggest their Frequency series for a great bang for...

Re: Leland and red truck fly rods

Bottle of nail polish, in the color of your choice, around $2. Boom. Instant alignment dots. Hook keeper? I imagine given the length of your Rod you have approximately 8 already. They're called...

Re: Down the Rabbit Hole We Go - Want a 6-wt...

After a lot of reading and test casting between the bvk and the mangrove) essentially for your same purposes, I ended up with the mangrove 906. I loved everything about that Rod. It's a bit slower...

Re: New Rod Advice Needed

I think it's hilarious that the OP says he has money to spend on Redington (due to an inside connection) and most of what's been suggested so far is other companies... Just made me laugh.

As far...

Re: New Toys & Getting Started in Fly Fishing!

I'll second (third? Fourth?) the value and fishability of the Featherlight rods. I got mine a few years ago on Amazon before the prices went up (ha!), paid a whopping $21 to my door.

However, it...

Well done. I've used that method before and actually stopped using the threaded caps in favor of those that just slip on.
