Re: What have you been tying today?

Here are a few of my recent ones. I just had to pack up the tying stuff for a move and won't be able to tie for the next few weeks - which is deeply troubling.

A divided wing eastern green drake...

Re: Favorite flies for mountain streams?

I don't get too concerned with color on my mountain streams here in VA - light and dark usually covers it. For mayflies I like parachutes, so I carry light and dark ones in various sizes. Lately,...

Re: Parachute size

It looks nicer too. And you'll fish a nice looking fly with more confidence (and therefore better) than an ugly one. ;)

How to properly "Match the Hatch"

1. Start by picking a destination. Try to find a place that has a few bugs and fish that like to eat them.

Re: Brook Trout Pictures

Those fish are obviously stockers and I'm guessing you took them home to eat? I'm hoping that if you ever make it up into the mountains for some real VA brookies, they don't get the same treatment.

Re: Do You Use an Net / An Catch An Release

I'm in your neck of the woods and I only use a net on a certain spring creek out that way. In most places you can't get in the water and a net helps to reach the fish. I land them by hand...

Re: Brook Trout Pictures

Thank you sir. Here are a couple more that are probably 2 of the best shots I've ever taken. Not much skill going on here - just hold the camera under water and hope you get lucky.

Re: Sharing information on the water: what is the proper ettiquette?

In my experience, a knowledgable and experienced angler is not likely to ask a lot of questions anyway. Such a person is probably already got it figured out, and if he/she doesn't, they enjoy the...

Re: Fly Difference

Much different. Comparaduns are tied without hackle and with split tails. The wing is tied in an upright fan style or 180 degree arc so that the wing supports the fly and helps keep it sitting...

Buggers can make a decent Hellgrammite imitation but the Murray's pattern that Peregrines posted is better. Note that the main difference is that pattern uses ostrich herl for the tail as opposed to...

Re: Sharing information on the water: what is the proper ettiquette?

Re: Fly Box Photos

Don't know if I'm wise or knowledgeable but here goes. Until very recently, I lugged around 4 or 5 of the big C&F waterproof boxes for all of my trout fishing:

1. Big mayflies
2. Small...
