Re: High End Fly Rod Suggestions

The Sage ONE gets my vote....and as a guide, I do like guiding women. They listen a hell of a lot better than the men do.

Re: Chest Pack, Waist Pack, Vest, Hip Pack, OH MY!

I have owned upwards of a dozen different packs in search of the right one. Fishpond, to me, is easily in a class all of its own with William Joseph being behind them. I hike and bushwhack...

Re: Southeast MN Pictorial

Not a big state parks guy. I'll hit it until October 15, then stay in the woods the rest of late fall/winter until it all opens back up J. 1.

Re: Route Advice Sought.....

If you're planning on the I90 route through MN, get south of 90 for better fishing and better scenery, dip into northeast IA, and cross into SW Wisco. All three areas fish very similarly. Basic...

4/21/14 Report

I got out for most of the day yesterday. It was a mix of clean water and clean depending upon where you were. A few guys out and around, but they were easy to evade, especially if you walked twenty...

Re: Pretty Good Brown

Ryan,

We didn't get hit that hard further south with the last barrage of snow. As of right now, we don't have much at all, so the streams are running pretty clear.

Re: Pretty Good Brown

Dylan, I got my son going by age 7, but it was very guided and under controlled circumstances. Get her out on a lake with some open water and eager panfish, just to get some of the basic casting...

Pretty Good Brown

http://ontheflyguiding.com/image/86731712.jpg

My ten year-old son Brock caught and released this 19" brown this afternoon. Needless to say, he leads the old man for largest trout of 2014 ;).

Re: Southeast Minnesota Trip

No, that's a different stream. That one has multiple rock quarries on the upper headwaters. South of 90.

Re: Southeast Minnesota Trip

The old stone mill still stands on beloved Gribben, but the stream itself is in horrendous shape after last June's flood. It's a sad state of affairs when a stream that is dear to you gets drilled...

Southeast Minnesota Trip

My son had a few days off for spring break, so I took a few off with him. Unfortunately, there were lots of fishing related things not in our favor for this trip. The weather had suddenly turned...

Re: Wisconsin Early Season Opens Today

I worry that when it breaks, it's really gonna roll. Feet of snow and six foot frost depths doesn't bode well if the weather gets too warm too fast.

I hope I'm wrong.

Re: SA's Sharkskin lines

I've owned Sharkskin in several occasions. I preferred it for distance and punch, like when I want to toss streamers. The sound of the line zipping through your guides is noticeable and can be...

There are tons of hippers on the market. It all depends upon your budget and how much of a beating you want to give them.

Hydrostop from Loon

I recently got a container of Loon's Hydrostop for dry flies. Anyone have any experience or insight on it before I go dumping dozens of dries into this concoction?

Thanks.

Re: It's Getting Close To That Time

It's been cold, but not -20 cold. The good spring creeks have enough flow and "warm" spring fed water to stay open during the winter, with the exception of some shelf ice here and there if it gets...

Re: minnesota trout fishing

Mix in some #14 scuds (yellow/orange) and some #18-22 midge emergers and larvae in black or olive, and you're good to go.

Re: minnesota trout fishing

The "old" list of streams that were open only from Jan. 1-March 30 are the ones you can still fish until they all open on March 1. The winter opener of 2015 will be when they will all be open.
