Re: Rod weight help needed

Maccoons - It all depends upon what species you are targeting. For bass, the rod is correct. I wouldn't use it on small trout or panfish because you would lose all sense of feel of the fish on your...

Re: Anyone trout fishing in WNY this time year?

Keep in mind that the temps today were high, so everything is melting. The whole state is on a river flood watch. I heard that the Salmon river today was running at 1800.

A Couple of Hair-Wings

I've just started tying hair-wings. I'm not planning on fishing these, I just wanted to tie something different. I'm hoping that with enough practice I can tie something worthy of framing. The first...

Re: Midge jaws/vise

I have a Regal with the standard jaws and regularly tie down to size 24 without issue. You may not need midge jaws unless you're going much smaller than this.

Re: Salmon Fly Grub Pattern

Eunan - So what do you do? Do you just hold it over the steam for a short time and then let it dry, put it in a book,??? Wouldn't it return to it's original form once the feather dries, or do you tie...

Re: Salmon Fly Grub Pattern

Ard,

Thanks for the response.

Let me better explain. When I wrap the yarn in the first direction, the yarn is wrapping over the thread/hook, so it is easy to wrap butt to butt. When I wrap...

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Ard's suggestion to follow the "Tie-Along" Pocono did a few years back seems like a good first step.

I'll have to add in Troutfitter in Syracuse NY. Wayne Walts, the owner is fantastic. When I started out tying about 3 years ago, he threw in a bunch of tools and materials when I bought my vice. He...
