Re: Forbidden Gadgets

The Tie Fast Knot Tyer is a great tool. I used it a lot until I started using tippet rings. I still keep it in my bag though just in case I lose a ring and don't want to tie another on streamside.

Re: Dealing with glare on the water

I don't think there's much you can do about it in the situation you described other than putting your back to the sun. The streams I fish most of the time are heavily wooded so I try to get a tree...

Re: Wood Peckers

I saw a Pileated for the first time this weekend hitting the suet cakes at my wife's grandmother's home in North Central Ohio. I've seen lots of smaller woodpeckers in the area but that one...

Re: Going downstream or upstream

Just my 2 cents so take it with a grain of salt. I prefer moving up stream against the current because I'm not kicking a bunch of sediment into the faces of the fish I'm trying to catch. That being...

Re: Whatever happened to mridenour?

That's funny I was thinking about sending you a PM yesterday just to see if you were at least lurking. Welcome back.

Re: Looking for tips on grey ghost fly steelhead fishing

I've seen and hooked up with more steelhead over the last 3 days than over the last 3 years. Had one take me into my backing yesterday before he came unbuttoned on a leap. This morning I caught and...

Re: Looking for tips on grey ghost fly steelhead fishing

Thanks for the advice. We are here for the week. Water is super clear and low but we found one great hole loaded with steelhead yesterday, hit it pretty hard late last evening, all morning and all...

Looking for tips on grey ghost fly steelhead fishing

I'm in PA this week steelhead fishing and want to try some of the ghost patterns I have. Anyone have any tips on using them? I'm fishing both fast water and a few deep holes in super clear water....

Re: Tying Schollmeyer's Parasol Emerger

Thanks for resurrecting this post. That's definitely a tie I'm going to try when I get a chance. I've been using a large dry fly as an indicator a lot lately but the stream I fish I rarely get a...

Re: Housatonic River

I've had the pleasure of staying in the area twice and the Housatonic is definitely my favorite river to fish thus far. All of you who live in that area are extremely lucky and I can't wait to get...

Re: Random 3 week fishing report part 2

Knee took a few days for the swelling to go down and is still a little sore. I think I caught the edge of the rock right in the meaty part of the top, probably better than hitting the bone. My wife...

Re: Random 3 week fishing report part 2

The very next week (this past Saturday) I again got to go out for a few hours while my wife visited with her grandparents. This time I needed to stay in cell phone coverage so I headed way up river....

Random 3 week fishing report part 2

A week later my wife and I had our 20 year high school reunion, so after a fun night visiting with old friends I got up early and headed to the same spots. I took this picture in a deeper section of...

Random 3 week fishing report part 1

About 4 weeks ago my wife gave me a Friday off to head home and visit my old home stream. I got off to a late start and 2 hours later around 10:30 I made it to the park and headed off for a nice...

Re: Looking for a good starter kit...

My advice (and I started with a kit) is don't buy a kit. It's one of the few fly fishing purchases I really regret. Instead buy a decent vise and a few starter tools and specific materials for the...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

I'm using an 8wt. and haven't had any problems throwing big streamers all day with it for steelhead. It also still has enough finesse to throw some pretty small flies when needed. I've had some...

Re: Are expensive sunglasses worth the cost?

I had 2 pairs of costa skimmers for several years, kept one in my car and one in my wife's. I dropped one pair a few weeks ago and scratched up a lens pretty good bouncing down some concrete steps. ...

I got a hall pass to fish all day tomorrow a couple of hours away in one of our few trout stream. I'm probably wrong but think they're chasing bait fish when they jump like that (or just celebrating...

I've wandered the same thing but I am willing to look past an old library stamp or broken in, not damaged spine. I've found some great children's classics at our library sale room and am always on...
