Re: What have you been tying today?

@carp and bass

GIMP is a...

Re: Kayaks

I found a pelican angler kayak 10' for sale at Dick's sports for $399 down from $450. A few of the plastic tabs on the paddle holder and bungee holder were broken, and there was a scratch on the...

Re: Moving to Cape Fear, starting the learning curve again

Good to hear from you Jim!
Folks around here say that the shrimp are out of the marshes right now, and the fiddler crabs prefer warmer weather to come out of their holes. Mud minnows seem to be an...

@dakota

the 'shrimp dinner' is tied with krystal flash in pearl, which shows as a little pink.
The bonefish tan color also looks good and shrimpy.
The back is loon UV glue with a coat of clear...

Been out a couple more times on the kayak when the weather has been nicer. Still no schools of reds found, but the kayaking is pretty amazing.

Moving to Cape Fear, starting the learning curve again

We recently moved to the Cape Fear area, and the learning process has started all over. I am not entirely new to saltwater fishing, but I am definitely still a beginner at fishing the tides. I've...

Re: Skunked in Sarasota! :(

Sounds like midge fishing when there are thousands of the real thing around... Sometimes you have to use something outlandish to get their attention. I've had my fair share of salt skunks as well!...

Re: The Tailing Tide...tailing redfish in the grass

There are some huge grassies in Colorado. But, alas, they seem even spookier than common carp. I've tried cottonwood seed flies, crayfish patterns, etc. with no luck.
Looking forward to learning...

Re: How much water California needs to end drought

Drought is the norm in CA. Growing up there, it seems like 8 of 10 years will be extremely dry, with the rest producing torrential downpours and huge spring runoff. It is normal to see reservoirs...

Re: DIY Travel Tying Box for woodworker types

For now I've cut some sheets of foam to fit tightly in the spaces to hold down materials when closing the box. Its a work in progress. I was thinking elastic straps, flexible clips, or maybe a thin...

Re: Safe driving on a freeway; how fast is too fast?

My fiance thinks i drive too fast unless the whole line of traffic is going around me. She concedes when I point out that every other car is traveling faster, and that we are in fact a rolling road...

Re: Do youreself Florida Keys fishing?

The few times I've been down there I saw maybe 1 bonefish wading. I hear there needs to be good grass cover and I'm sure i have not been able to explore enough though. I'd assume some of the more...

Re: Anyone want to donate me stuff for my fly tying desk?

Arts and Crafts stores like Michael's have good scissors, feathers, beads, and organizer boxes. They also have foam sheets ridiculously cheap for foam flies/terrestrials, etc.

And in line with...

DIY Travel Tying Box for woodworker types

We're moving and I wanted to be able to tie on the road and in between living situations.

You can pretty much buy a mass produced version for $40, which would make more sense economically, but...

Re: Vacation booked now HELP WITH A ROD

I guess budgets are relative!

I personally wouldn't travel with a rod/reel combo that was worth more than $300-400. Flying, saltwater, crowded boats... I broke a fairly new 11wt falling in some...

Re: What to wear when surf fishing?

Tape your fingers with athletic tape where the line strips through when stripping. Saltwater and sand on a fly line can cut some nasty grooves in your fingers.

Re: Moving to Wilmington, NC in January

I believe fly Fishing is enjoying a 'rebirth' or 'revival'.

I did notice that almost every charter or service down there is light tackle or bait oriented.
I've watched Fly Fishing go from...
