Re: Rio Gold Lumilux fly line

It's hard to tell because Trout Boss wasn't out that long when I made the switch. And the only time I fished it was Hex for trout. When I fished Smallmouth with the same rod I used Cortland big Fly,...

Re: Rio Gold Lumilux fly line

I tried it, and I was the Cortland rep when I bought it.;)

I liked it a lot for big bushy dry Flies (Hex) and it seems to cast nice in a six weight. You do need to leave it out all day in the Sun...

Re: Lamson Waterworks as a whole?

One good point I will say for Lamson is that their conical drag is one of the best systems for protecting light tippets I've seen. In fact I'll go further and say that it is a superior system to any...

Re: Cortland precision lines for epic fiberglass?

On normal glass rods I'm not a fan of Trout Boss. It has too long of a belly to load in short range situations. In fact I don't like it on shorter than an 8' rod of any kind. I always like Peach...

Re: Need water proof camera help ?

One thing as a semi-pro photographer I would insist on is the ability to generate RAW files versus Jpeg files. Raw files are imminently more editable, have a higher dynamic range, and you can do...

Re: New Cortland Fly Lines

I have a lot of guides who love the orange, because they believe the fish don't see them as well against brighter sky's .

Yes it is, the Trout Boss is true to weight line.

Re: Vintage Fenwick HMG Graphite

The Fenwick shorter ( under 8') original Glass rods MIA have some collectors value. But there graphite has very little "collectable" value. With the exception of a few classics like the Winston WT,...

It's kind of a light grey.

No, none of these lines were cast or spooled. Cortland changed there...

New Cortland Fly Lines

I have a bunch of new 2014 Cortland Flylines. They were demos for packaging and our new in box. They are as follows:

I have multiples of these lines
Trout Boss (Orange), Size 4-5-6 A great trout...

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

So now I know why Frank has a Rolex, he sure didn't make that money representing Cortland. :D

I've only seen one of his reels, I was doing a promotion at Gates Lodge in Grayling MI, and they had...

Re: Jesse James Reels

I have no problem with the guy either. He's into the outdoors, he's also producing high end AR's for the firearms market. I suspect it's more of an I enjoy Flyfishing I want to make reels, then, I...

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

One other issue not dealt with is cork-drawbar reels are very prone to failure in cold-wet-freezing conditions. I suspect Abel had heard a lot of complaints about failures from MW Steelhead fisherman...

Re: What's the worst fly rod you've ever had?

Sweet and Salt, I must ask, Have you ever fished Drys on the Holy Water of the Ausable? That B IIX 4 weight was one of the most popular rods for sale at Gates Lodge.

As far as my worse rods. I...

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

I would argue they are both excellent reels with the Abel maybe getting a slight nod for durability and a few points knocked off for weight in SW or Big Game reels. I would also argue that the Bauer...

Re: Greys XF2 Streamflex 7'-6", 4wt - Opinions?

Well, at least two managers from Hardy made the move.

I suspect the Greys move is about the fact that in the US Fenwick and Pfluegger both already have a history in the industry. Where as in the...

Re: Greys XF2 Streamflex 7'-6", 4wt - Opinions?

It seems that Pure acquisition has been a mixed bag.

I know they have kept on Howard Crofton.

They did not "axe" the entire operation, most were offered the transfer to Pure's hdq. in...

Re: New Winston.....

I've talked to the local Winston Rep and he claims the Nexus is a far faster rod then anything Winston has done with the exception perhaps of the B III SX. As far as price point, I believe in all...

Re: Radian vs Zenith.....

I use to rep Hardy and the 6 weight Zenith while a good rod never impressed me. To me the 4 and 5 weights are the sweetspot in that series. The 9-5 is still the best all-around 9-5 I've ever fished....

Re: Greys GS

This fish was pushing 30 last year on 6 pound flouro leader and a size 14 egg fly. The water was low and clear so I went light and small to get her to eat. My biggest is 42 on an 8 pound Maxima...

Re: Greys GS

20 pound tippet is a HUGE tippet for Salmon. I don't know anyone using tippets that size class anywhere but AK. On the Great Lakes we typically fish 8-12 pound fouro-carbon depending on the water...

Re: Streamer line for Hardy Zenith 9' #4?

I must be perfectly honest ( I use to be the Hardy-Cortland rep). Streamer line for a 4 weight? No such thing. With the exception of occasionally throwing some smaller bead-head Wooly Buggers with a...

Re: Bauer Rogue Reels - Opinions/Reviews

I rep'd them for four years in the MW (I'm no longer a rep). And I was very impressed. Not only did I not have one return in three states, but my reels held up great. I didn't fish my Rogues real...

Re: Hardy Customer Service

One of the good things Pure Fishing did with the Hardy purchase was to improve the Warrenty. Under the old owners you would have been looking at over $100 for the same repair. Kudo's, to them for...
