I have never had much luck on top for Rock bass. However smallish buggers (8 to 4) in black or brown will always work on Rock bass & Smallies in the Champlain valley. Great photos, looks like a fun...

Size 12 & 10 darkish bead head nymphs work well. Fish them just off bottom. Go ahead and catch a few of the Sunfish, there scent will add to your catch rate. A 2 lb. bullhead is alot of fun on a 5...

I am fron North West Vermont and enjoying this forun.
I generaly fish within 1 hour of home, so that means alot of warm water (Lake Champlain) & cold water mix. Just getting back to fly...
