Re: What types of sewing or craft store yarn... ?

I think the Aunt Lydias that is being sold is old stock from years ago just like I have. Note that it is a few skeins here and there.

FYI, I use needleloft as an antron subsititute. The fibers are...

Re: What types of sewing or craft store yarn... ?

Unfortunately Aunt Lydia's Rug yarn hasn't been available for about 20 (??) years. It was a wonderful sparkle yarn. I still have a bunch of it and I have not found any yarn that is quite the same....

Re: Line weight

If the rods have a silk line designation, use the conversion chart below:

Re: How To: Drift an Indicator Nymph Rig

The concept of how to mend with a strike indicator is VERY simple. Pretend that the indicator is a dry fly and you want it to drift drag free.

Having said that, there are TWO sources of drag on...

Re: droppers

Nope, not even close.

Gary Borger wrote the first book exclusively about nymphing, oddly enough titled, Nymphing, in the late 1970s.;)

He traces the use of cork floats (indicators) back to Dam...

Re: New rod, new problem

Sounds like a number of errors leading to a failed cast.

Do you start the cast with the rod tip at waist level and the rod horizontal. That is poor mechanics. Start with the rod tip at the water...

Re: New rod, new problem

I think it was a poor backcast with not enough power to to load the rod for the forward cast. You could also have started the forward cast too soon or too late.

You could be doing a windshield...

Re: Nymphs reach bottom...but stay there

I never knew that. One way around that regulation is to tie a fly on the smallest circle hook and crimp the shot above that.

Re: Nymphs reach bottom...but stay there

Without knowing exactly how you are rigged, it is difficult to tell you exactly how to improve.

So here are some possibilities:

1. The bottom or top nymph could be too heavy.

When you rig...

Re: That indy system video got me thinking

There are five small indcators that you should consider.

The first is really cheap and they are walleye floats, which are used as Lindy Rigs to suspend bait like night crawlers just above the...

Re: fly line sizing

Good suggestion above.

Another method is to actually cast the line with the Z-Axis to see if it is suitable for the rod. Weighing it will give you the line rating and casting it will give you an...

Re: Which Internet Provider?

I've used Charter Communications (cable internet) for over 10 years and have no complaints. I also use them for my wired phone line. At least in my area they have great service. I don't like Charter...

Re: Borger Thingamabobber Modifications

Toothpick seems faster and simpler so what's the advantage of the fly line stops instead of the toothpick?

Re: "Classic" models better than "New" models?

I have a GLoomis GLX classic 10 ft 5 wt that is my favorite rod for the Madison River. I have a more modern 10 ft 5 wt GLoomis Streamdance High Line Speed as my backup, but I prefer the older rod...

Re: Rod for NE Iowa

Pardon me, but it seems to me that you are under gunned for some of the fish you are going to hook. If you have to hand line a 14" fish on a 4 wt rod, something is not right.

What is not right is...

Re: Rod for NE Iowa

The fact that you could grab the leader and pull the fish out tells me that it is the rod that is the problem and NOT a delicate tippet. Is it the Orvis Brook Trout Super Fine Brook Trout rod from...

Re: Should I bother fishing when water is high and brown?

I had one of my best days fishing the San Juan River when the flows were at 5000 CFS (normal 1000 CFS), water flowing bank to bank and water flooding the Texas Hole Parking Lot. The reason is that...

Re: How can you tell that your nymphs are reaching bottom

In my opinion, the most sensitive indicator is an upright post of yarn, preferably two contrasting colors to give some contrast. The upright post allows the angler to see any change in the tilt of...
