Re: A beautiful rod, well priced

Have heard nothing but good things about the 884 and the 905, same cannot be said about the 966.

Re: New Winston.....

I have no idea how much boron is in my B3x, but I can say when compared to the GVX (supposedly the same taper without the boron) it is lighter, faster to recover with less tip oscillation, more...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

Oh I'm not discounting the G2 a a pure dry fly rod, but rather a "dry fly first rod". I would categorize it as a 70 dry/30 nymph rod, maybe closer to 60/40 in the right hands. It's a rod I would...

Re: Sage Rod Chart Begs the debate - which is best?

I own or have owned the LL, SPL, SLT, ZXL,Vantage, VT2 and VXP and have cast/fished others SP, XP, Z-Axis and One. My all time favorite Sage is the 383-3 SPL, my least favorite being the One.

In...

Re: Need some advice on some new line

On that particular rod for dries I would go Super-Dri Elite or Gold. Trout LT and Mastery Trout would be a little too light, the Grand and GPX way too heavy.A good furled or hand ties leader will...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

Having cast the Radian and BIIImx, and currently owning a 5wt B3x and G2 I would put the B3x against the G2 instead of the Radian.

Action/Speed: Both rods are fantastic dry fly first rods. The...

Re: New Mexico Fly Fishing

I've done 2 "tours" of New Mexico, one for work and one for school. While there are certainly better fly fishing spots in the west, NM can be decent depending on where in the state you land. My...

Re: Underlining a rod

I've considered underling my Scott G2 5wt by a half line size or so just to see what happens....but lines are so expensive. Got the new Airflo Super Dri Elite I need to get spooled up and try on it....

Re: New fly rod.

If you were just targeting smallies then a 6 wt would get the job done but with carp you will want an 8wt. In your price range you can't beat the St Croix Imperial 8wt. If you do get into a monster...

Re: For SCOTT ROD Fans...

Where did you see new A4's? I see where they have woman's model Radian similar to the A4s. It's time to bring out an A5!

Re: For SCOTT ROD Fans...

Yup, no reason to get rid of the G2. I like my 8"8' 5wt as well and wouldn't mind adding the 8'4" 4wt in the future.

Re: The quintessential 8ft 4 wt?

I thought the "nude" color was my favorite but I'm really digging the "amber". Just a great classic looking glass color.

BTW, if you want to see how different color wraps look against the blank DO...

Re: Suggestions for guide in Estes Park area?

+2 on Kirk's Fly Shop. Can't remember my guides name but I know he is a school teacher during the year. He got me into some big fish, thought I was going to shatter my 3wt on one hog!

Re: The quintessential 8ft 4 wt?

Man you guys are going to get me in trouble. Now I want a Winston TMF AND an Epic 804!

For the Epic owners, what's the action like? Does it have enough tip to nymph with?

For the Winston...

The quintessential 8ft 4 wt?

I'll start off my recognizing that this is a very loaded question but...

I'm thinking about adding an 8ft to 8ft 4in 4wt to my quiver. This is not a rod I need, but rather something I want. Since...

Re: Practice Fly Line

I would recommend finding a used version of your "go to" line for the rod you are practicing with. To me it just makes sense to practice getting the feel of how your particular line loads your rod....

Here's to hoping for a med-fast "workhorse" stick that falls squarely between the G2 and the Radian!

Re: Do you throw BIG bugs during the Summer…?

I used your "Big Bug" 4/5/6 leader this winter for tossing double nymph rigs on the NF Payette and was really impressed. Since the salmon fly hatch just went off on the SF Boise I suspect it won't...

Re: St Croix Legend Elite 968-4

Nice find! I have the 9ft 8wt freshwater (green blank) and have been thinking about the 9'6" version for steelhead. Give us a review when you have a chance.

Re: Does made in USA matter?

I can comment on 3 of the rods on your list as I have cast a bunch of medium fast to fast 6wt rods in the last 6 months. If you are a medium fast guy the Response will be too fast and too stiff. The...
