They look wild to me to, color varies quite a bit, allot depends on the amount of tannins in the water, or their diet, If they have been feeding on scuds out of the lakes they can be red all the way...

I believe landlocks are fall spawners, you sure your not seeing sucker spawn coming out of them, it is the season.

I always give them a shot, I find that the age of the dam has allot to do with whether they hold fish. The older the dam the more silt and mud they hold the less likely I am to catch anything....

Its a beautiful trip if you don't mind paddling, you have to go through a few lakes, you also want to keep an eye on the water levels...
