Re: 4 weight 8' 6" -- Winston GVX or other?

I have no experience with the GVX line, but I'm sitting on the sidelines hoping that your concern is valid. Wouldn't it be amazing if a modern rod company made a graphite rod that behaved like a...

Re: Classic Sages?

Surely some Z-axis models will achieve "classic" status. I'd nominate the 9' 6wt and the 10' 4wt but recognize that others may have different opinions.

I also love my 7'6" 3wt ZXL. I don't know...

Re: Are We Over-Thinking/Over-Engineering?

No, what you're describing is essentially Zeno's Paradox, which was solved/explained many, many, many, many moons ago.

Re: Greatest 3 Weight Rods

I'll throw the 7' 6" ZXL in the mix. Great rod.

Re: 3wt short stick

The classic series are Lamiglas blanks and there's nothing wrong with that, but the SFRC "black" blanks are rolled in-house.

Re: 3wt short stick

People seldom mention David and Margot Redington down at South Fork Rod Company, but their black rods are rolled by Margot and trimmed and ferruled by David in Stuart, FL.

Their G7233 is a fine 7'...

S&S, no apology needed. Like I said, your argument is convincing.

Re: Fenwick Aetos - has anyone seen it yet?

It's a convincing thesis, yet you often present it as fact.

Re: Sage xi3 5 weight trout rod?

Hold on, the Sage Technical Service Manager (Chris Andersen) suggests a 6wt line for a Sage production 5wt rod?

That's messed up.

This Akuriko character asks a lot of questions that can be answered by a simple internet search.

Re: Hardy Zenith or St. Croix Avid

I think that last part is because the skeleton seat Zeniths are discontinued and thus discounted. People love a bargain. In ten years, I doubt anyone will rhapsodize about either reel seat--just the...

Re: Z-Axis versus One versus Scott Radian...

I'd like to know if either of the two newcomers can best the 10' 4wt Z-axis as a nymphing rod (that can do other things). For serious.

Re: 4 Weight Rod Help

When I read your original post I immediately though of my St. Croix 8' 6" Legend Elite, but it's considered a fast rod and about $30/40 over budget. I think it's worth it; it just puts the line,...

Re: simms vs orvis

Simms, for the Gore-Tex. I spent the money on some G3s and haven't regretted it.

I remember the cashier here at the Natick Outdoor Store doing a double take when the price rang up. I said "Yeah,...

Re: Stiff wrist/Flex wrist

I've started thinking about it as having a strong wrist rather than a fixed wrist. It's just that many beginner casters have more experience throwing stuff (versus casting a fly rod) so it's...
