Re: This is/was far more common that people think.

Obama and Clinton send US troops to their deaths too. We don't need to get into all that on this forum.

Re: Appropriate? This getting 'old' has its limitations.

Deepest regrets. Fred you remind me of my grandfather. He was a Kansas farmer - salt of the earth. I would love to fish with you and hear your stories.

Re: So You Want to be a Fishing Guide

Why turn something you love into something you hate. I have had too many relatives/ friends in the boat that turned my day into misery. No thanks. Guides earn every dollar. Tip well.

Re: Snakes!

I think you should have a healthy respect for Rattlers especially if your in a area with lots of snakes. That's not irrational, seems like common sense to me. In southern NM we run into rattlesnakes...

Re: Have you ever put a worm on your fly ?

Not a worm but a piece of bread. My 10 year old son and I pulled the drift boat over and had lunch one day in a famous tailwater. He threw his last bite of sandwich into the river and immediately a...

Re: Need Advice Planning a Trip to SW Montana

No, it was my new boat, the fly shops in Montana were great, very helpful in telling us where to fish and what to use. Of course we bought a butt load of flys in all of them but that's part of it. I...

Re: Need Advice Planning a Trip to SW Montana

I was pretty new on the sticks 2 years ago on the Montana trip. I hit a bunch of rocks on the Madison in the new clackacraft. I was ready to go postal on my fishing buddies who kept complaining but...

Re: Need Advice Planning a Trip to SW Montana

I like the Yellowstone to float and the Madison to wade. You can do both.

Re: What's your scary fly fishing incident?

I am a fairly new drift boat owner, we did the South Fork of the Snake last summer. The guy at the fly shop said no problem you can do it just watch out for the giant suckhole by the falls. Can a...

Re: Hyde drift boats?

Your alone, posters gave him some general information and tried to be helpful which to me is what he was looking for. No reason for you to scold everyone. No offense.

Re: The Juan in May

You can fish in waist waders but you will severely limit yourself so why do it. Stop by fishheads, they will hook you up. Standard midges and a black bunny leach and you will be fine.

Thumbs up Re: San Juan River

I agree you can do better than Andy Kim, Chip out of Aztec Anglers or Fishheads is tops in my opinion and I have fished with a bunch of different guides on the Juan. You will get more than the...

Re: Stream rules: rant content... beware.

No ones mentioned it but on some rivers the guides are the worst. Two sets of rules one for them and one for the average guy. Best thing to do is move on and avoid conflict, I am there to relax and...

Re: Even the most benign of rivers can bite you on the butt!

I made my 14 year old son read this thread. He has complained before about his life jacket being uncomfortable on some wild water. I have had some sleepless nights lying in bed thinking about how...

Re: Trout bummin' later in life

I think you have probably nailed it. Who wants to spend a winter in Montana, not me. I used to think I wanted to be a guide but I have had enough newbies in the boat to know that is straight hard...

Re: Trout bummin' later in life

Wow, so sad. I just retired from a career in teaching and would love to take off and be a fly fishing bum too. It is my passion but I am scared I would end up like this guy. Alternative is to move...

Smile Re: First Trip For My Son and I

I understand completely. I stumbled into fly fishing summer of 2011 when i hired a guide for a float trip in Colorado for my 11year old son and myself. Summer of 2012 we made 4 trips to the San Juan,...

Re: July trip to New Mexico & Colorado

Drive a little farther west and fish the San Juan, best river in NM. Easy to fish, lots of big fish. You could fish it without a guide. I could also recommend several good guides.
