Re: March Brown Fly Rods

What is the rod and price? I've seen them sell for $99 when listed for $500.

I paid $125 for my 7' 7 PC convertible 4wt. It is my most used rod. Not my favorite rod. But it is incredibly...

Re: Finally, first striper on a fly.

Beautiful fly. I'd love to know how you made that shad.

Yes! Nice fish!

Mind showing the pattern?

Re: Noob dry fly question

Can't believe it's almost March already!

+1 on drag wetting out a dry. And drag can be caused by many problems. On still water, my lines occasionally wick water and the tip sinks. When I draw a...

Re: Sage 2200 reviews?

I've never paid more than $100 for a reel and some of mine are quite nicely finished.

Re: Sage 2200 reviews?

Haven't seen one but heard it looks like it's got bed liner sprayed on it.

Re: Great Fly Rod Debate: Trout

Happy to see the DS2 490 on this list. It's perhaps my favorite rod for big water trout fishing. It was $100 new last summer from a bargain bin. And I almost didn't buy it.

Small water trout is...

Re: New Fly Tier Thoughts

Not bad for a week of tying. I'd suggest watching some YouTube and practicing easy flies.

Try tying a zebra midge to practice getting smooth wraps of thread and tight, even wraps of ribbing.

Re: Tying lessons

How much experience do you have? If little or none, a group lesson at a local shop isn't a bad place to start.

You should know how to get started before a private lesson. Simple things like how...

Re: Homemade rod carrier

Agreed. Much cheaper and very effective. Just don't use the wipers in the rain...seriously.

Re: over weighting my line

I use a 3DT on mine. It loads just fine. A 3WF would work too but I wouldn't use a 4wt at all unless you really want a slow action.

Re: Cabela's CGT or TQR

Not sure exactly what you're looking for in an action but my CGt is a fast glass rod and like a med-fast graphite. I really like it for the sale price. I've had people ask me if it is custom bamboo...

Re: Cabela's CGT or TQR

I've never had any salesmen at Cabelas push ANYTHING on me. They have a huge selection and fair prices for all levels of fly fishermen. Don't see anything wrong with their business model or their...

A $10 factory second DT. Probably Cortland or Rio.

Re: Cabela's CGT or TQR

I love my 359 CGt. It is a great rod. Medium fast. Reasonably accurate and delicate. I don't know why it has such bad reviews. I prefer it to the CGR. The CGt is almost graphite like in performance...

Re: Cabela's Wind River

I like them. Have three. They are regularly on clearance for $20. Best $20 reel ever.

More on Warranties

This is mostly nonsense. You are not paying $600 for a rod and $200 for the average replacement. Factory rods simply do not cost $800 to build, especially those produced offshore.

A Redington CT...

New Redington Drift 2/3 reel question

Click drag systems are notoriously light. The Drift is no exception. You will need to palm it on any substantial fish. I almost wish there was no adjustment if it is virtually worthless. It's a nice...

Some good advice here. I also take off one side of the plastic line spool container (twists off usually) and stand directly above it while reeling. Haven't had a disaster since my first spool...

Why are razor blades so $$$$?

You can still get the razor (handle) at some high end shaving suppliers (maybe Art of Shaving).

But my blades are not expensive. I use the highest priced double edge razors, Japanese Feather...

Re: ultra light rods?

Some good points made here.

I fish almost exclusively 3wts or lighter. And I'm convinced I catch more fish on a UL because of presentation. But I've seen better casters present lighter with a 5wt...

Re: Whiting Intro Pack

Nope. But it was a Whiting Farms pack. Sure it is MSRP based on the prices at this joint. Everything is top dollar. But it is surprisingly good hackle and the colors I needed.

Whiting Intro Pack

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/10/hyta7epu.jpg

I picked up this variety pack from a local fly shop for $66. It's got a half cape of dun, cream, brown, and grizzly variant. Size ranges from 12-20...
